1973 Roadrunner Project

Very nice! Keep the pics coming! :headbang:

Does anyone know what these holes in the firewall are for? I fond this pic on the internet what appears to be a 72 with similar holes. AC maybe? Is there a correct blockoff plate for them? Thanks

Nice car! My 73RR only has one hole, the one closest to the motor, and its for the heater box drain, so that may have been modified. You said in your original post you were keeping it original, but have a 440 for it? Are you going to upgrade or keep the original 340?

I also noticed it is missing the wheel well molding, and if that is the case, and I don't think it was an option to get a new one with out it but could be wrong, I would guess that's not original factory paint, but maybe an early paint job.

Another interesting thing, is it has the reverse light indicator on the dash, and those were put in only on manual cars, not automatics, but it has the auto shifter.

Thanks for feedback. I'm keeping it as original as I can but thought it it would be a good platform for a mean 440. I got a correct but not original 73 340 and 727 with the car if I want build them to make it "correct" but just looking to have fun with it for now. I saw your project , it looks great, enjoy.

Not a fan of MIB, but it is very black.

Started cleaning underside of RR over weekend and happy to find only surface rust. Does anyone know if Canadian cars were factory under coated? Its coming off in sheets in places so I think I can successfully remove all undercoating. I would like to stay factory correct on underside but don't want to have any undercoating. I removed the gas tank and it seems everything was sprayed a flat or semi gloss black first then undercoating wherever they could hit. I'm assuming in 73 they stopped body color on the underbody, can anyone confirm that, or is each car and factory different in treating underbody. I would be happy with a clean black underbody when done. Can anyone suggest what flavor of gloss would be close to factory? I'm thinking matte or satin. Also could use suggestions for other underbody finishes like springs, rear, center section, k-frame etc. Thanks.

My 73 RR was body color on the underside, of course, it was covered with undercoating as well, but when I rebuilt it, I didn't put the under coating back. Regarding the finishes on the other parts you mention, those were usually painted black, but I went ahead and powder coated everything.

Here are a couple of views before she was all put back together just to give you an idea of what it looks like.

Final coat, just the right sheen, very happy with finish.

Thanks, I'm glad someone feels my pain. I was doing my impression of a Dexter kill room in my garage trying to keep dust and overspray from getting all over everything. Could only spray 2 or 3 cans at a time before fumes got bad, even with respirator. Must have gone through about 14 or more but got nice coverage. Thank god for my lift. Garage back to normal and mopped clean. Looking forward to clean work and putting it together.

You have great car. I love that body style. Your doing a great job. I wish I could find a project as nice as that. Your shop looks like a good place to work on it in. I do everything in a uninsulated barn but it does have a concrete floor. Keep up the good work.

Got the rear end and springs sandblasted, primed, painted and reinstalled under the bird. New stainless lines everywhere. Starting to look like a car under there again. Anyone ever see orange paint sprayed on rear brake drums like that? Was wondering if that could be factory applied as a "high performance" feature. I would like to recreate it if it is.rear_7.jpgrear_1.jpgrear_2.jpgrear_3.jpgrear_4.jpgrear_5.jpgrear_6.jpg

These pictures will make a blind man drool man... I cant answer your question but more then likely someone wanted to dress the ole gal up, which it sure looks like your doing! I hope im wrong and your on to something though, really looks sweet !!!
