1973 Roadrunner Project

Wow! What an amazing find and that metal looks in great condition. I know what you mean about 73 and after being picked on but the 73 is one of, if not, my favorite car. I am biased though as it was my first car. Right now I am building a 72 that was my brother's first car but I always have a twinge of regret not finding a 73. Congrats on the find and I cant wait to see more on your build. If I was more confident in my work, I would post mine as I went, but my work is not as good as most on here.

At one time nope, Now, oh yea, i love them!!!

I always liked Sherwood Green with the White stripe on these cars. The white and black interior looks great as well. Someone who worked at the bank in my home town had one of these colored cars. I looked at it everyday on the way home from school. Hard to beat a stripe this large! I am hoping to do my 73 'Runner with the 340 replaced along with the 4-speed in Plum with the white stripe. Never owned a purple Mopar or a 340 powered car, trying to do it all in one package. I agree, go with a hot small block, less hassles but build what you want!

What a cool project! Looking forward to your updates!

Thanks, I have been enjoying it so far. I'm actually very excited about how it sounds as it's been a long time since I've had a RB Mopar and that was the reason for this project from the start. The car is just the icing on the 440 cake! The modern parts like the 440 source heads and the Comp XE275HL cam enhance the original design. I had to put a fuel pressure regulator inline to the Edelbrock 800 AVS to make it behave, it sounds rather responsive. I'm hoping for 350 or so horses at the wheels. With the 2400 stall and 410 gears it should be a quick fun ride.

Got some 245 tires for the rear, fill the wheelwells a little better. Installed the original chrome mirrors and NOS centercaps. Makes it pop.

Yeah man, very happy.

Want to convert my standard rallye dash to a tach dash. Picked up a nice clock dash at Carlisle last year for $50 since they can be used for a tach dash. I heard the repro 8k tach is way better than the original 7k unit as far as function anyway so I plan on one of those. In the meantime I converted the dreaded amp gauge to voltage using a Bosch unit I found at local auto parts store for $20. Filled in the void on the gauge ends with a piece of black cardboard and glued it to underside of gauge face. I plan to solder the 2 ammeter wires together as well as eliminating the feed to dash from alternator by rerouting to the starter solenoid. That should save a potential dash meltdown as well as improving electrical system performance.
