1975 - 440- out of a Titon motor home

Been a while since I’ve been on here, but life happens and I still haven’t had the chance to ship my 69 roadrunners out here to work on but back in 2016 when I had my 70 roadrunner I put a 76 motor home 440 in it. Left the bottom end alone, cylinders were still cross hatched and I was on a stricken budget at the time. I put a melling double roller timing chain on it, a lunati cam it was a pretty big cam but not too big, some 906 heads I sourced and blended the bowls, eddy performer rpm intake and a Holley 750dp that I already had laying around that I rebuilt a while back. That with an 833 4 speed pistol grip and at my shop I worked at at the time let me run it on the dyno jet. Results were 308whp and 447wtq. Not to bad on a small budget build.

308 at the wheels. None too shabby. No problem with hood clearance? Breather??

hoping to pull the 440 and trans this week end
takes a little more effort the fact its 3 hrs away

low compression 440
Good to see another post from you my friend.
I'm hearing the dawn timed shotgun blasts around my home in the SWAMP so I know whatever duck limits are, folks around here are hunting them. How about you? Any great outdoor adventures to report?
Oh, yeah. I almost forgot how you've proven there's a LOT more that makes power with a big block Mopar than high compression...

Also,
Didn't motor home BBs have the "smog heads" too?
I heard they have larger cooling ports.
Can anyone weigh in on this?

IMO....Truck (industrial) - Motor home engines were generally low hp but higher torque output, but lower compression ratios. These engines generally had a forged crankshaft, usually with a nonstandard drilling pattern with 2 extra holes (8 total). The heads were a completely different layout. In a "normal 440", the spark plugs enter under the exhaust manifolds, perpendicular to crankshaft center line, and are 3/8" reach. Truck/industrial engines usually have spark plugs that are higher up, even with the exhaust outlet ports and go in at an angle (like an LA engine) and are 3/4" reach, the exhaust valves may be sodium cooled, have rotators, and have Stellite seats. I'm not well versed in these engines, but I've seen a few, enough to know there are significant differences. The block may have a higher percentage of nickel and carbon in the alloy for higher strength and as noted and larger cooling ports. Just my opinion of course.

When I was in high school, my buddies and I pulled a motor home 440 out of the bone yard for a 71’ roadrunner. We added a cam, headers, intake, and carb. That dog would hunt and kill back tires all day long. Cheap and plenty fast. Doesn’t have to be great, just has to be.
That story made my day!!!
