2017 7th Annual FABO NHRA "Pick 'Em" Game - Time For Your NITRO Fix! Get Ready To Make Your Picks!!!

And now here's the information on how the points were reset. The same as the past several years:

The plan is based on NHRA's model but is even more competitive. NHRA gives the points leader a 30-point lead over 2nd-place, then 10 points separate each succeeding place (third, fourth, fifth, etc.).
But, just like the last four years, here's what I did after the U.S. Nationals as a starting point for the remaining six races for the 2017 FABO Championship and bragging rights: 1st place points were re-set at 2000 points. 2nd place was reset at 1970 points. Each succeeding place is separated by a maximum of 10 points unless the existing point totals difference following the U.S. Nationals is less than 10 points; existing point differences were used where the difference was less than 10 points. So if you're in 3rd place or lower in the standings and 40 points behind the person in front of you before the points were reset, you're now only 10 points behind after the points were reset; but if you were only 2 points behind the person in front of you before the points were reset, you're still only 2 points behind them after the points reset.

This tightens the points up even more from 1st to 16th and will make the last six races even more competitive.

As before, this is going to be fun!

Before you look at the reset points, please read the following IMPORTANT INFORMATION because it won't be reposted. You will miss out if you don't read it.
* It is your responsibility from here on out to post your picks on time without a reminder. I'm not going to post reminders or send PM's.
* The "pick carry over" that was initiated last year is no longer in effect. If you don't post picks before the start of Pro Qualifying at each event then you will miss out on all event bonus points. If you don't post picks before the start of eliminations, you will miss out on all points for that event.
* If you miss posting picks for two consecutive events during the "Countdown" you will "lose your sponsor" and have to sit out the rest of the season. 'fishmens67' (FBBO) hasn't posted new picks for quite a few races now. His picks have been "carried over" for each of the past five (5) events, but that will end if he doesn't post new picks after the second event of the "Countdown".
* The only way to guarantee your picks are posted is to make sure you post them prior to the deadline, or "lock" your picks in for the remainder of the season. As before, you can always change your "locked-in" picks by posting new ones on the game thread.
OK, here are the reset points following the U.S. Nationals.
Before the reset, the point difference from first to sixteenth was 578.5 points...

There is comfort in failing....

:wtf:
Poor ski, I feel for ya' only 129.5 pt.s
could possibly in a long shot, get that in 1 race/qual. little pt's...
4 great qualifying session's/4 great rounds race combo picks
& a few at the top Pick Em' leaders, pick opposite of
yours &/or their big name guys/gals go out early :poke:
{because you know they will always pick them favorites/pt. leaders}
&/or some of theirs don't qualify well, :poke:
it could very easily "could be" upset city :)
& you're right back in the game, or closer...

Maybe it's just time to gamble ?
maybe start picking longshots ?, some that are doing well...

upset the apple cart/play spoiler

 good thing it doesn't cost anything, huh ?

Hey ski, it can happen easier than you think!
I was in 7th place after the Mopar Nationals and worked my way to the top just before the U.S. Nationals. Then my picks didn't do so well at Indy and I dropped a bit.
Make some picks and give it a run.

Here's your Tuesday-before-the-event reminder and update on the entry list for the Carolina Nationals at zMAX Dragway in Concord, NC, with qualifying starting on Friday.
The weather forecast currently runs from a high of 81F on Friday to 77F on Sunday. The forecast also shows a 40% chance of some rain on Friday falling to 20% for both Saturday and Sunday.
The NHRA.com entry list currently shows 16 Top Fuel, 17 Funny Car, 16 Pro Stock and 18 Pro Stock Motorcycle entries but those counts can still change.

Check to verify who's driving what - a few familiar names have withdrawn from this event.

Ill go with

TF Antron Brown
FC Matt Hagan
PS Jason Line
PSM Eddie Krawiec

Charlotte
I'll go with

T/F Torrence

F/C Capps

P/S Butner

P/SM Savoie {If he's not racing than Tonglet}

Did anyone else see that
Bruton Smith/Owner & The Strip at Las Vegas
will be going 4 wide ?, construction is underway already...
To be like one of his many other tracks that he owns
in Charlotte 4 wide facility ...

I wonder if he'll do that to any of his others too ?

Put me down for:

Top Fuel: Antron Brown

Funny Car: Ron Capps

Pro Stock: Greg Anderson

Pro Bike: L.E. Tonglet

P/SM Savoie {If he's not racing than Tonglet}

Jerry's racing. It's a former Savoie, now Sampey, that withdrew from this event and says neither she nor Cory Reed will be back racing until Las Vegas.

I hope you aren't jumping on a sinking ship, Reed!!

The Carolina Nationals qualifying results will be a little late getting posted today. Our Inland Mopars Car Club monthly activity is today and I'll be at the Antelope Valley Mopars club all-Mopar car show today.
Not sure what time I'll get back home tonight but I'll get 'em posted as soon as I can.

Congratulations to 'cuda20' (FABO) for earning the Top Qualifier title of the 2017 NHRA Carolina Nationals with a very nice total of 27.0 bonus points. He picked the #2 qualifier in Pro Stock Motorcycle, the #3 qualifier in both Top Fuel and Pro Stock and the #6 qualifier in Funny Car. Way to go!
'johnnycuda' (FABO) was right behind in the #2 qualifier spot spot with 26.5 bonus points.
'alsant' was the top FBBO qualifier with 25.5 points
More great picks!

Predictably, game players went conservative with their picks for the first race of the 'Countdown'.
We have 16 players for the Carolina Nationals and 14 different driver combos made up of:
* 3 different Top Fuel drivers. No Round 1 head-to-head matchup possibilities. The first possible head-to-head matchup may happen in the semi-finals if both drivers last that long.
* 4 different Funny Car drivers. One Round 1 head-to-head matchup between #6 qualifier Robert Hight (1 pick) and #11 qualifier Matt Hagan (2 picks). The next possibility of a head-to-head matchup is the semi-finals if both drivers make it that far.
* 4 different Pro Stock drivers. Qualifiers #1, #2, #3 and #4 so no Round 1 head-to-head matchups and no possible Round 2 matchups. There could be two head-to-head matchups in the semi-finals, but all four drivers would have to make it through the two opening rounds of eliminations.
* 4 different Pro Stock Motorcycle riders. Again, no Round 1 head-to-head matchups. All four are in the bottom half of the ladder so we could have two head-to-head matchups in Round 2 of eliminations.

It's going to be interesting to see how the game points come out of this event.
Good luck all!
