I'm getting a stock 68 383 block from a friend and I'm going to build a stroker motor to put in my Charger.

I know 440 source has stroker kits but are there any other companies that offer stroker kits that someone can recomend.

I plan on getting a set of edlebrock Performer RPM Chrysler 440 heads

I figure over time I will try to buy everything at a discount or on sale and then have a local engine builder put it all togeter for me.

Sugestions and comments welcome.

Steve,
I,m getting ready to do the same thing..I already have the heads(edeldrock) on my car now...I,m going with the 472 stroker..440 source does make a good kit...I know lots of guys that are runnin them in their cars..

These guys also sell good stuff..The stroker kits are the same price as 440 source..440 source sold out a couple years ago..They sold most of their heads in stock and are getting rid of their dyno and other equipment..

I have a good buddy who is a machinist so I get really good machining prices. But I had a 440 crank turned down to 383 main size. And block bored .030 over. works out to be a 431 low deck. 11:1 compression. 906 heads. Should make about 550 HP respectably and I have less than $800 in the engine. still need to buy head gaskets and push rods. but still very cheap HP using mostly stock parts.

What pistons did you use and what else did you do to get 11:1?
I'd like to do a standard bore 400/440 crank build as well.
I'd like to be closer to 10.5:1.
I thought you ended up with 444, though.

With a 400 block it might work out as a 444. I have a 383 block. Bore x Bore x stroke X pie / by #of cyl = displacement. The best way to do it would be RB rods with short custom pistons. I'm running B rods and old TRW Forged dome top pistons. Heads and block are milled. 2x4 tunnel ram with 600 carbs, moly rings, steal shim head gaskets ect. They don't make the pistons I'm running anymore, I managed to find a set used for 100 bucks.

If you are going to spend the money on a stroker, why go with a small bore block? The benefits of a large bore block like a 400 out weighs the cost of getting another block and you'll like it more. The 383 bore size will shroud the valves more than a large bore will....plus the 400 is actually a stronger block than the 383.

Sorry, for got this was a 383 build thread. 400 bore size pistons aren't nearly as easy to find reasonably priced.

I have a set of .030 over Diamond forged flat top pistons for a 383 stroker. PM me if you're interested. $500 plus the ride.

Thanks Hemirunner

I'm working on doing my research now. I also want to get my hands on the block before I start buying parts. I think the stroker kits I'm looking at include pistons.

CAM choise is also going to be a big decision.
