My brother has a set of 4.56's 742 suregrip he is not using,(he would never know it is missing).I have a stock 318 poly.would it hurt the driveline. He says that is too much gear for a stock motor that is 44 yrs old. What do you think

I have a 456 in my 66 Coronet, not stock by far and it is to much gear for the street. I have a 500 inch , 5500 stall, rev. pattern manual shift torqflite and a spool with that 456 gear. 3 MPG in town or 6 MPG at 50 MPH in high gear.

So how many telephone poles to a gallon does the equal up to ? :rolling:

Last time I "smoked the tires",I had just put new tires on.Took the 1(peg-leg gears) tire down to the cords.Took the car to the tire shop( I had road hazzard warranty!!)The manager said that extreme abuse was not covered.I told him "I was just haveing some fun".I got the tire for costs.$30 m&b.The shop guys could not believe the amount rubber in the wheel well and on the 1/4 panel.

I have 4.56s in both my Hemi and my six pack car. I have never checked the mileage but I know my Lil Red Truck does better than both of them and it gets 8 mpg with
3.55s. Yeah, I got some real economy cars here. LOL!! When I drive my 350 Chevy pick up I think am driving a gas sipper and it gets 12 mpg.

OTOH, when I nail the Hemi car and power shift 2nd the passenger always freaks out when the glove box comes flying opened. That is worth the price of gas right there.

:rolling::rolling: That used to happen to me all the time in my 68 RR. Glad to know I wasn't alone!

On that car I also had a slip fit exhaust system to allow for easy un-capping at the track. It was held together with springs and a chain strung between the seat bolts held the pipes up so they didn't hit the ground. It was all fine until I replaced the 383 with the 426 Max Wedge. Without fail under WOT in second the back pressure must have been too much and would blow the pipes off! Usually scared the crap out of me especially the first time it happened. While out racing one night the pipes blew off in second and people back at the finish line were trying to figure out what was going on. My buddy said "that was his secondarys opening"
