Dave,
Call me John....

As for the valve covers, I think the factory ones would look AWESOME! BUT, the chrome ones that are made from what looks to be factory Mopar valve covers are also great......... The "Mopar Performance" ones, I think are over used these days. BUT those could even look good IF you painted them, the block color, and then polished the raised edges an let alone or were clear coated to protect the Aluminum, as it being polished.....And the raised words of: ""Mopar Performance" done in black....

I think it look good!

When I get the engine in the car with wire looms it may look better than it does now.I not sure what kind of header Rhoads performance (the shop with dyno)has so I kinda just threw them on.I'm geting butterflies now can't wait untill tomorrow. It will be a sleepless night I'm sure. Dave L

Great progress Dave, engine looks awesome. I bet you'll be nervous when it first fires (I know I always am..)

You know, I got to thinking, that 426..... if you took that beast as-is, and added a cross ram to it, would that make it a Max-Wedge, with just the added cross ram intake, all set up with carbs? It is, the same block, right? (I know there were a couple "Max-Wedge" motors, the 413 and the 426) but both had cross ram intakes and dual offset carburetors....Interesting concept to say the least!

Hello All,Bill Overcash,Don Carnell and myself took my engine to rhoades performance for a dyno test. The test was going good for the break in time,The old 426 was sounding very strong.Dan at rhoads was behind the controls. After break in period it was time to check for leaks or anything else that maybe wrong before the inital test.Dan has noticed a little water near the frost plug sure enough the block is cracked at the bottom of the water jacket near the drain plug.I talked to so many people about a sure fix it stuff none of them sounded appearing to me.I have decided to take the block to an expert welder in cast iron.He said he would give it his best and added sometimes when welding another crack may appear depending on the quality of the cast iron, and that he welded many blocks with good results. The crack is low enough that I could Hard block about an inch and cure the problem. With hard blocking would mean back to the machine shop for some honing for size. The engine is at the welders now so I will know soon.I be sure to keep all of you posted. Just another bump in the road!!! Dave L

Did the machinist mag the block??? If so, he should have seen it!!

My machinist has alot on his mind with family sickness so we will leave it at that.I will deal with it. Thanks Dave L

Good luck with that sounds like you have a handle on the problem.
