Is a 69 and a 73 440 block the same? I know the HP was cut down in 73 from 69, and I would guess that it had to do with the heads and smog stuff?
 
Blocks are generally the same if you're talking about a bare block. 440Source.com has a nice writeup on blocks but if you're talking about cut down being compression, yeah, the 73 had pistons that were lower in the hole than the 69 did for lower compression and the 906 heads were gone too.
 
Yep, X2 above. If you have a good 440 block - use it!

Turns out that it is a 76 and not a 73 engine
