Also getting the skin install ready. You have to be careful with the door jam. I used a lot of care removing the old skin where it is spot welded on as it turns the corner. I did not want the roto-broach going all the way thru the jam metal. Funny but I see a difference in the factory welds on each side of the car. I bet there were 2 guys on the factory line. One on each side with a little diff in welding techniques.

Im seeing that on my car, the drivers side looks totally different with looking like it isint spot welded on, when with the passenger side you can see every spot weld holding it.. weird, Hey you have things looking good!
 
I ran out of argon already. That bottle did not seem to last long. To make a strong lap weld connection I bend a lip up to meet the new metal.

I agree! Daytona, if someone would ask you if that bottle lasted pretty good for as much welding as you've done with it, what would be your answer? Ive not really gotten started on any serious welding stuff yet, but im curious, it appears to be the same size im using, mine is a 80-20 mix and i like it, to get the 75-25 its a longgg drive and i get mine from a guy who runs his business at his farm 10 min from me :) Thanks!

That car is coming along great and I love what you're doing with the wheel wells. I've really got to stop reading this thread though. Every time I see something new you're doing to the Charger I want to do it to my Coronet! I've gone through 2 80lb bottles of argon since I started my project, it goes fast.
 
I found some leaks in my argon system, Testing your fittings with soapy water is a MUST, I found out. Mine had tiny leaks you could not hear. I turn the main valve off as much as possible also now. Got my bottle filled for $35 at Nexair. I couldn't remember what they had said it would be. Happy with that.

Finishing welding on the de-hump up. More pics later.

1.5 hrs later> I just need to cut the braces out and tap their lips to meet the new metal flanged edge and weld the few spots the have.

Spot welds eat the gas away pretty quick...I went through lots of bottles and I have the same size. Keep an eye on your regulator too, as the bottle empties it seems to increase the pressure to the handle.

The car is lookin really good though...lots of good work.

What psi should I have the reg set on for spots? I have had it on 30. Too much?

30 psi is a bit much, usually it doesn't take more than 12-20 psi depending on the conditions (breezy, fans, heaters, etc). All you need to do is create a shield to keep oxygen away from the puddle while it's molten.
 
In doors and days with no to very light breezes I set it for 12 psi. If it gets a bit breezy I up to 14-16. 30 and you are wasting it.
 
I have my reg set on 20. That's what the welding supply store told me to set at. Like the way the wheel well is turning out.
 
When i bought my welder it came with a pre- set outfit, no gauges but seems to work good and haven't had any problems yet with it, I don't know which set up is the best though..
 
I welded up my whole exhaust system between 10-12 psi. If your welder starts popping and you see little porosity holes in your welds you know you turned it down too much. Otherwise you are all good.
 
IMHFO I think the pressure for the Argon/C02 mix, really depends on what size wire 0.023" or 0.030", I run more PSI with the larger diameter 0.030" wire, I run my welder settings pretty hot too slow wire feed down & up the bottle/gas PSI {especially welding tubing/pipe}, with a Argon mix you don't need to run at as high of PSI/Gasses, but just straight C02 I like it a little higher {probably just my personal preferences/settings}, it also could depend a few other things too, like: how thick the metals are your welding, how far away the tip is while welding, how clean the materials are your welding & what angle the torch tip is at, also if there's not allot of air movement in the area that your welding, blowing the "inert gasses" away from where your trying to weld... To me between 10psi & 30psi is normal in my experiences anyway.... many different type welders, regulators, torches tips & shields etc., can make 1 setting fits all, kind of difficult....
