$500- 68 charger

I just went back to the beginning of this thread again, wow you have come a LONG way !!!! go back & look for yourself, its inspiring.

I have looked back a little. It is amazing that in my 1st post I mentioned I was about ready for sand-blasting and a year later I still have not done the major blasting. Just areas as needed.
I have been fortunate that everything was just rusty enough for me to be able to fix. If it had been a little worse I don't think I would have been up to it. I see some of the other guys work that had to go farther than mine and I think "Man, I'm glad mine wasn't that bad".
I still have a ways to go. Really looking forward to getting the blasting and priming/sealing done, so I can start bolting it back together. I need to fix those A frame mounts next, I ordered them last night. Along with one of these US Tools lower radiator brace stiffener.
Mine is a little beat up and that will cover it nicely and help the car to be stronger.

I got one of them too DaytonaKid . . . I'm not sure that it's suppose to "cover" the existing one, or replace it ? ?

I've been looking at it and I think I'm going to cut it up and piece it together to get the best meld of the two of them . . . I'll be curious to see what you think and how you go about replacing the core support. I'm going to have to figure out how to add the tab back on that holds the center support . . . DUH ! ! !

One A frame inbrd inner mount removed, one to go. I will align the new ones with 2- 1/2"x 13" rods going thru them and the outer mounts while welding in, pic of that to come later. These pics are from the engine bay side during removal of old mount/s.

Sorry but I guess it will be a while before I can install the stiffener because the rotis mount is in the way. It looks like it will work nice.

I know what your saying, I said I'd be driving mine this last summer now I'm pushing to even have it done for next summer. Oh well, you'll have a car worth waiting on. Nice work "I like the stiffener".

I got the areas blasted and welded one up where the rust had weakened them. New brackets should be here this week and will install them soon.

Well DaytonaKid . . . I still haven't got mine installed yet either . . . but you've got a reason for not installing it . . .

I like the support, but I don't know if I like doubling it up on the existing support - besides, I think that the holes in the metal look really cool, and I'd like to keep that look on the car when I'm done . . . so . . . I might drill out the existing metal to match the support holes - then the (2) pieces of metal would mate back-to-back.

I've also got another screw hole in my front frame that would be covered up by the new support . . . still not sure what that's for . . . so I'm procrastinating getting it welded in place. I'll let you know if I get mine installed . . . ( smile )

That is a pretty cool idea about cutting matching holes. Is that going to be able to be seen on chargers? I don't remember and my valance was pretty well shot. About that hole/bracket, those links I posted a few post back show how to do that/everything.

Daytona Kid . . . Thanks for the post . . . but I'll show you my concern, took pictures today and posted them on my build thread. Here they are:
Set the support in place and marked the holes with marker:

After I remove the support - you'l see a threaded hole on both side that would be hidden by the core support.
Any clue what goes there ? This part of the car was already taken apart when I got it . . . so I don't know ? ? ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated ! ! !

This is on a 1967 Belvedere Convertible if that make any difference . . .

Mine has the same holes but I can't remember what goes there either. I will research this and get back to you. I might suggest to drill holes in the stiffener to be able to get to them just in case we figure out something bolts on there.

Thanks Daytona Kid . . . it's driving me crazy why those threaded holes are there . . . I thought the same thing, make them available in case I need them. Needless to say, I'm still sitting here and it's still not welded onto my car yet . . . until I figure out how I want to do it. If you find something - let me know - thanks again.

I got the new A arm mnt brackets today. $180 total gouge,
(PAYING THESE PRICES COULD MAKE THIS A MILLION DOLLAR CAR.)
I should have looked closer at the pic of them in the catalog. I'm not real happy with them but I guess they will be good enough. They just don't look anything like stock/factory. And I have to remove the inner cam washer holder deal from my old ones to reuse on the new ones. I ordered them from ABS and they drop shipped them from SafeTcap. I will say though they do seem to be as strong if maybe stronger than stock. The tab-part where the A arm bolts will actually be thicker by 1/3 after I weld on the old cam holders. As can be seen here, they are as thick as stock before adding the holders.

Thnx TH..
Here is a good test fit and shows how I'm going to line up the brackets during weld in.
And here also are the cam holders coming off. I will blast them tomorrow.

No need to make them. They are still in good shape and were not to hard to remove. Making them would have pushed my limits and taken too long.
