$500- 68 charger

I think we all started about the same time n posted are cars what we started to work on.you guys are well ahead of me as ive just finished putting in one rear frame rail on drivers side n starting to work on back end n to get the rear rails to measurements.i took lots off pics taken this thing apart but not good at doing prep pics.not long ago someone posted about having a jack stand collaspe well it happened to me lucky the car slid away from me im almost done a solid base on wheels n trying to get dual useage out of it for my rottiserie. Iwill post pics when done

I got one of them too DaytonaKid . . . I'm not sure that it's suppose to "cover" the existing one, or replace it ? ?

I've been looking at it and I think I'm going to cut it up and piece it together to get the best meld of the two of them . . . I'll be curious to see what you think and how you go about replacing the core support. I'm going to have to figure out how to add the tab back on that holds the center support . . . DUH ! ! !

Well I got bored and figured I put the radiator support stiffener on. I was able to trim it just a tad to make it fit while in the rotis. But I didn't like the way these 2 small holes in the support were not lining up with the big holes in the stiffener, so I made some plugs to fit close in them and welded them up. They are probably there for a reason, like the trans lines or something, if so I'll drill them out to look better with the stiffener holes. In the 4th pic you can see where I drilled holes in the bottom lip of the support to weld to the stiffener and I'll also weld the big holes in the front of the stiffener to the face of support. I had to do some custom trimming on the stiffener to get it to fit right, like cut the welded ends till I get it clamped on and welding started.

I don,t think on chargers that this stiffener can be seen to easily and because I will be installing a hi hp motor, I welded it everywhere it could be welded to give it max strength.

Looks very SOLID there Daytona Kid . . . I got mine installed too, and just in case it is visible, I went a little different route with the welding.

Here's what mine looks like . . . ( full details can be found on my thread - click on the my build link at the bottom )

Turned out very solid ( but did it differently then they documented )

I think I could stand on it and it wouldn't move - I'm very happy with the results ! !

( if my welds looked as good as yours, I would have a whole lot less grinding to do ! ! ! )

That does look good, and I believe it will show on yours, but not as much on mine due to my frnt valance which goes back a ways. My welds on mine are strong but not all were pretty. It was hard for me to get comfy on some of the welds., gotta do some grinding myself.

I am at the end of my rope with parts that don't fit. Got these offset spring brackets from Mancini and the studs don't line up. 1st thought it may be the fault of my car being off somehow but then checked and they don't even fit the reinforcing plates they came with. As usual I'll make them work. Thanks a lot Mancini!

what size tire are you planning on running in the rear ? i ask cause your moving the springs

Looks good Daytona, your right you can't see anything in the front of the Chargers.

I think I am going to use 325 x 15-50s or 60s MT drag radial street legals on a 10" wide rim- 5" backspacing. Which would probably work without the offsets but I may need the room in the future for wider. I like the tires (frnt and rear) on that 70 RR over in the racers hang out thread I started about tire and wheel size.

10-4, mine are 10 wide 5 back, would be better with 5.25 back, have seen 5.5 back & it gets to close to the spring.

So your saying I can go with a 5.5 with the offsets?

I custom ordered a set of 10" for the rear of my Charger recently. I went with 5.5" and 5.75" backspacing. These measurements centered the wheels on my car. Everyone can be a little different so it pays to measure accurately.

yep, i will try to find you some pictures of 5.5

What do you mean 5.5 and 5.75? Different on each side or was that frnts also?

I did go with a 1/4" different backspace side to side on the rear. That was what centered them evenly on my car.

Got the hanger problem worked out. Test fit of caltracs, mono leaf, offset hangers, ect. was perfect!

those caltracs look pretty cool, how much lower will it sit than stock. i just got the hotchkis rear setup, which should be 1 to 2 inch drop
