509 Camshaft issues

Another note on the .509/292° old school Mopar purple stripe cam.
I am guessing that is what I have because I know it's a purple stripe, and the numbers on it don't tell me what it is.
If I had any more low end torque my already bad traction issues would get worse, it pulls good off idle and riding the RPM curve up all the way to 6,200 is a RUSH, and the 6bbl adds to it.
I am certain I'll do something else in my future stroker motor, but I LOVE the way it sounds at idle and it pulls hard enough for me.
I agree though that it is definitely not the right cam for the OP.

Fundamentally....... a 383, 3.23’s, 3000 stall and the MP 509 cam in a heavy street car is not a match made in heaven.
Especially if the priority is snappy street performance.
MP’s recommendation for the 509 cam is 4.10’s and a 4 speed.

There are certainly many better options available for what it sounds like the intended purpose of the car is.

I’d be looking at something in the low/mid-220’s @.050.
