It's 65 Saturday. Hard to believe it's 2015 and that these cars are 50 years old. Many have been raced since they were built. tmm

This was always my favorite '65 S/S car, your photo reminded me of it's crash at my local track and then being scrapped a few miles from my home. This was the Plymouth/Dodge, better known as the Plodge.

These photo show the cars transformation, note the rear wheel well opening, moving the rear axle forward, removing the hood scoop, the injector stacks, lettering from Leal and Shahan Racing Team to H.L. & Shirley Shahan Racing Team.

Before moving onto the '67 Wynn's Coronet the '65 received a '65 Coronet nose, new paint scheme, hood scoop with carbs, then back to injectors, a CA. match race car.

This has become quite a interesting history lesson. I like it! Keep up the good work guys. tmm

I'm still researching this car. I have had 3 emails with Shirley, she was kind enough to view my photos and confirmed that this was the same car. The car was sold and brought from CA. to it's new home in CT. These photos show the car as it arrived at Dover Drag strip, Wingdale, NY. Note the scooped hood cut out for injectors, all the original markings still shown, wheel wells cut, see the '65 Plymouth tail lights.

Soon after the name was changed on the car to CHALLENGER III, and the new owners on the fender Dubes Automotive, Ansonia, Conn. The single headlight grill was added. Can't miss those '65 Plymouth tail lights.

This is the last photo I have of the car in this color scheme, now # 788, Fairbanks Transmission logo, Stamford, CT. I have been in touch with one of the original pit crew that will let me view some of his photos including picking up the car in CA.

Enjoy your Sunday. tmm

I'll finish up my story today. The car received it's 3rd and final paint scheme #777 with the same owner in the early 70's. Dover was known for it's turn left and down hill after going through the traps. This aerial view shows where the car went off the track to the left.

These photos were provided to me showing the wreck. When the car was repainted the 4 headlight grill was reinstalled. Towing away for it's final pass. The car was scrapped soon after at Daddio's Auto Wrecking in Ansonia. The engine and drive line may still be alive today which I'm searching for.

Dover closed in 1976 and the only thing that remains today is most of the shut down lanes. Our reunion group made a trip out there in 2008 and while combing the area of this crash my buddy found the right headlight door for Drag-On-Lady which now sits in his living room.

The original '65 blue & white Belvedere still my favorite and I hope to build a model of it one day.

How about Strickler Sunday.

The picture of the car on the trailer looks like they are setting along the Pa. Turnpike.

I found this on line. We lost Mr. Strickler way too soon.

In all, Dave Strickler won 16 National Class Championship titles in NHRA and American Hot Rod Association competition and he set 41 National and World records.

Unfortunately, however, he died of a massive heart attack on June 6, 1985, just 22 days short of his 45th birthday
