62 Belvedere 318 poly granny cruiser (one day i hope)

Did the alignment on the car today... MUCH better, doesn't feel like it's trying to kill me at 20mph now :) I SOO wish i had kept the power steering... i will probably switch back at some point, just couldn't find brackets for the pump..
Rear end is making some very unhappy noises.. going to pull the driveshaft and check backlash before i drive again.. Especially not at coast or under power but at that perfect spot where there is no load forward or back on it it gets really noisy..
Installed EBC yellowstuff brake pads.. brakes are a tiny bit better but still not good enough.. i couldn't panic stop or even get near locking them up.. i honestly have no idea where to go on that from here.. meh.. i'm tired.. nap time

OHH BTW... leave dog dishes on the front or make them blank like the rear? my dog dishes wont fit the rear plus i like the rear black rims..

P.S. the 4.57 gear is livable for 50mph around town stuff.. if i have to change it i will go to like a 3.91 i think or maybe even 3.23.. dunno.. need to find someone local that would like to set one up for me so i don't wreck it :)

K... fixed some stuff tonight and put on another 5 miles... I HAVE to replace the mufflers... it's just annoying, going to try to find the quietest 3" mufflers i can. my motor makes such little power and i put too big of pipe that i don't think it will matter.

I need to find a center section or pay to have this one fixed/setup.. the 4.57 gear doesn't bug me.. but it's howling and sounds grindy with 15 miles on it.. was turning the yoke by hand earlier and i think the guy that rebuilt it didn't put in new bearings or something, doesn't feel smooth :(

Regretting the manual steering, might switch that back at some point.. just needed 318 pump but figured manual would be fine, i don't remember turning a wheel so much to go around a corner :)

Mufflers that sound bitchin on the outside can be ffn annoying on the inside of the car. I know that one!

what's funny is that it's really quiet inside the car and no droning.. i just find it embarrassing.. i'm making all this noise and going no where :)

Gonna take the axles out tonight and swap sides.. last night one was 140 degrees when i got done driving, other was 98.. wanna see if that heat moves with the axle or stays with the brakes (i had them adjusted with no drag at all, so i think i might have a bad bearing.. will see)

It's sooo horrible.. i'm sure i have posted it before but this is with full exhaust... Gibson says "ohh they are soo quiet at idle.. then loud when you get on it.." uh huh... $200 for the bastards too :)

Personally, I really like the look of the dog dish caps, and even more so when the wheels are the same color as the body. I have always thought a plain black wheel looked more like a temporary spare. But of course, your car, so definitely do what makes you happy. Either way, the car looks pretty cool.

I just found this thread. I am going back to read through it all.

Don't read this thread you will get dumber as it goes along :) I make horrible decisions knowing i will hate it in the end.. and right now i absolutely hate the car. Ordering new mufflers right now, it's beyond annoying to drive. Then try to get the whine out of the rear end, i will work it out :)

And i agree with body color rims.. i just didn't think bout it before mounting the rear tires, and i have never once painted rims without getting paint on the tires so i'm not going to try at this point.... one day.

Pulled the old mufflers last night.. new ones just showed up, hopefully get them on tonight depending how i feel after work..

They are big and ugly and heavy and hopefully quiet :)

Waiting on the 4.30 gears to show up this week.. the 4.56s were bad :( Haven't done much while waiting. rubbed out the drives and passenger quarters and they are not too bad. Need the energy do to the rest of the car now :)

New gears in, slight whine on decel (4.30s) i have read gears might get quieter after some miles.. but not counting on it :) It's not a problem though.. almost silent.. Also changed the exhaust and i went too quiet but it's nicer to drive..

And i 100% will be swapping back to power steering asap... the 20:1 box is just too much fighting to turn.. i need to find a 318LA pump/brackets or save up over winter for a borgeson..

Oh.. rear end rides a bit too hard, kinda hard bouncy, i think i need to back off the caltracs a bit

Just read your whole thread.. Having a lot of fun & learning again what you already knew... Loud mufflers are cool, to much gear is fun.... Till a week or so in & the mufflers are annoying & so is the gear... But hey, you've resurrected the old girl & you'll sort out the issues.... I don't know about you but in the past I've taken a few cars that I've brought back to live by the old owners just so they car see the car is still around... I think they enjoy it & you get a few great stories out of it...

Oh, I think your fender issue could be fixed a lot easier then finding a new fender..

Quarter looks good after rubbing it out IMO. Did you paint yhe car? what did you use?

no, everything from about 8" up is the original 1962 paint.. i had to replace the bottom of the quarters and the fenders which i did paint (came out bad but good enough)

K, got a few miles in yesterday... 100% have to convert to power steering (car started as power but ended up with a PST 20:1 box..) i literally have to 2 arm it around corners and it's just a battle, no idea why.. my challenger was manual and i could just bout 1 finger it, that was a stock steering box though. I am curious if the power steering pitman/idler are longer so making manual that much harder? Probably just order a borgeson setup (more money gone)

The brakes are just dangerous and with that i have no idea why. everything is brand new, disc/drum using the Raybestos MC36412 MC, supposed to be for manual disc/drum.. i can stand on the pedal and there is no quick stops.. just a nice easy slowing down. Even put yellowstuff pads in front to try for more bite. I think i'm going to buy the half plastic one drdiff sells to see if that changes it. The one below is the current one..

Just talked to Bergman and ordered a full power steering kit... literally could have bought a showcar for what i have into this pos.. but it's been fun :)
