all the collector car insurers require it be park in a garage or car port . i'm not that lucky my driver sits in the drive way . and as far as getting totaled it will be branded a total on the tittle for life . good thing i planned on driving it til a die . but that brand can half the worth of most vehicles .

Reckon you know the grand history of pushbutton mopars driven by Dick Landy and I think Don Garlits in the day. There was a story about one of these guys (can't find it right off) when Chrysler dropped the buttons after '64 he had the button shift installed in his new '65 drag car (taken from a '64) so he could keep using the button shifter. As much fun as it is to drive a 4-speed, I always was a fan of the button shift...given all sorts of nicknames "typewriter drive"..."punch box...". When I take my car to the shows the trans is a big attraction...many grandpas telling their grandkids about the shifter and guys showing their girlfriends...some kid around asking their girl to show them where the shifter is and they have no clue...lol

There exists a picture of Gene Snow in a dart AWB with his left arm out the window and his finger on the PB shifter!That was the coolest thing,,,,,,made me want one some day!!

Do you why the shifter on all Chrysler/Desotos were on the left side??

That was a safety thing to keep them away from curious kids and such or the missus mistaking the buttons for the heater or radio or something driving at 70mph! Lol. I thought I read something recently the super stock model had the buttons in a different pattern - D was at the bottom and ist below the N so you'd shift away from N or R on the strip. I reckon yours are that way...a nice idea as when I get on it manually shifting it's not good to be punching them in the direction of N or R!

Yeah - that's the article I think I had read...mentioned having them in view for fans to see. I read that rental car agencies/fleets whined about buttons as it confused people renting cars who were unfamiliar with button shifting threatening to not lease Chrysler cars leading to the demise of them. **** when I was like 5 years old playing in my Uncle's 57 Dodge I friggin knew what 'D' meant...

My understanding is federal law mandate was the demise of the push buttons. But I could be wrong.

I would probably guess it's for comfort, especially for Gene Snow. Look how he has his arm resting on the door while he shifts.
