I have been getting some prices from different places to restore the aluminum trim on my 66 Belvedere. WOW. The quotes are crazy high! Like $2,400 to $2,700.:angry9:

Anybody done their own? If so, what process did you use and how did it turn out?

It's a long and tedious process, that's why it's so pricey to do. Send me a pm, I'm sure I can help and it wont cost you both arms, lol!

I used to sell most of my trim from cars that I parted to a buddy that redid it but he's no longer with us. He did pretty good work too. I've communicated with 5.7 in the past and when I'm ready (hopefully in my life time) I'll be sending my 66 grille to him. Main thing is to send it in a container that will protect it from the shipper!

Used paint stripper and metal polish and did not remove anodized. Gently worked bumps & wrinkles. Used Rust-oleum Metallic Paint & Primer In One, Flat Antique Nickel rattle can for burnished finish in the middle of trim. Looks great, get lots of compliments. This is a daily driver never a show car.

I'm in the same boat Cranky. I just am not in a position to spend the $$ right now to have the trim professionally restored.
I really want to get my car back together and on the road ASAP but this has become a substantial roadblock. Already way over budget on this thing ...
