I am in the process of buying a 67 belvedere convertible, and I am wondering the locations of all the VIN numbers on the car so I can make sure everything matches. I know about the door jamb, of course, the cowl, and radiator support. I believe there is on in the trunk gutter too, right? Anywhere else?

On a 67, you will only find the VIN on the door plate. The rest of the numbers (radiator support, tag and behind the bumper) are the Sales Order (SO) number

What is a Sales Order number? Is it a number that can be traced back to the correct VIN or just a random number? I am just trying to make sure the car is legit.

The Sales Order (SO), or later Vehicle Order number (VON), is a number that is assigned to the vehicle during the ordering process and the number used to track the car through the the VIN assignment and production. It usually consists of the scheduled production date (SPD) and a four to six digit number. It can be found stamped on the body, the fender tag, the broadcast sheet, the window sticker and other documents relating to that specific car. If you have a document that contains both the SO and the VIN you can tie to two together.

On a 67, the SO can be checked by looking at the fender tag and the body numbers. That will tell you if the tag goes with that body. Since the fender tag does not have the VIN, you have to find one of the above mentioned documents to tie the two together.

On a 67 B body, the body numbers will be found on the radiator support and behind the rear bumper. Not all cars may have it behind the bumper.

Yes but it should also be pointed ot that on 66-67s it often did not get stamped on the rear but always appears on the Rad. support.

Thank you for the information. The car has the fender tag so we'll see when it gets here.
