67 coronet problem.. Need help.

too much cam,one indication, is the engine will surge at highway speed

My dad's done one pull with it when it wasn't heated up and acting up. It ran fine at high speed.

it won't cause the current issue....if you remove the air filter..the top front of a 4 barrel carb has a flapper that is the choke portion...horrizontal when cold but verticle when totally warmed up...some stick closed. If closed it will run rich and like crap ...especially at low rpm...sputter and stahl on accelleration...best I can explain

Alright, yeah I get it. That does sound like a possible explanation. It does that and backfires as well from time to time. I told my dad about this though and he firmly believes this isn't the problem. That's why we're going with the coil route to see if this fixes the problem.

did dear ole Dad check the choke or just say "nope"?? It's very easy to do and not to start the urimary olympics but I've seen stuck or mal adjusted chokes and never a bad coil since I've been driving old iron for just over 50 years. Not to say it can't be, just never experienced it

He hasn't checked it no. He isn't really interested in getting my car running right till after farmington. He's trying to get his car finished up first. I guess i'm stuck driving the truck for most the summer... haha.

It's just easier to check the choke then spend $$ on a coil without verifying things, but that's the way it goes I guess. Best of luck and hope you get it fixed

terzmo is right...real easy to check the choke.
Heck, man, just pull the air cleaner, and look.
Electric or not, choke plate is either open, closed, or somewhere in between. If it's not hooked up, should be open all the way...plate standing straight up and down. If the plate is not, even partway closed, it cuts out air to the carb, forcing it to run rich.

It sounds like an ignition issue to me too. Check all electrical connections and then follow procedure to check the primary and secondary ignition parts.
