'69 charger r/t-se: Building my dream car

Thanks guys! Here's a teaser update on my grille, spent most of the night yesterday wet sanding and finally laid down some of that final dull aluminum paint I found. Really like the shade and finish of it, looking forward to some more painting tonight

:blob1:wow looking pretty good :blob1:

Man, That looks great, cant wait to see the whole grill done, Someone's going to be asking you to do some work for them!

Thanks guys I'm really happy with this final silver I found. Happened to catch it in the sunlight yesterday at sunset and it looked awesome

That's funny Ron I was actually thinking about posting a kinda advertisement thread with pictures of it all done if it comes out as nice as I hope. It'd be cool to start doing some grille resto's for people, tedious work but really pays off to see it coming together :icon_thumleft:

Lol, If it turns out like the piece shown here, i cant see why someone with this type of grill wouldn't think about it! Don't forget, E-body Cudas and Challengers are in this line of re-doing work to.. That would be cool if you have the time and "tedious" minded heart to do them and see them on others cars knowing you helped another Mopar look cool as heck..

Wow Speedy - that's looking great ! ! ! And, you're so good at it, why not offer help to others, it'll help pay for your car in the process ! ! Everyone wins . . . go for it ! ! !

Yeah it'd be great to help fund my car and even better to be a part of someone else's mopar resurrection. I think the Charger grilles would be one of the more tedious with the finned sections, but it'd be a cool challenge to get some work on other model grilles, too. Now I just need to knock this thing out so I have something to showcase haha

Don't think I posted this yet, but it was actually the first thing I did when I got the car home for some motivation lol. The "before" pictures are on my digital camera, but these are my grille emblems after I freshened them up

Very nice, you do some pretty fine work. I wish mine weren't broken so I could do the same, did you repaint them?

Your emblems look great. What color red did you use? I ended up ordering new ones, but have been waiting 2 months for the R/T because the supplier is out of stock. I might have to try freshening my original up.

Yeah to me if your originals have good chrome still then it's worth a little work to save the cost of new ones and know the originals are still on the car, it wasn't too bad to restore mine.

I started with polishing the chrome with a microfiber towel and turtle wax polish. Then scrubbed them with dish soap, a sponge and warm water, using the rough part of the sponge to make sure what was left of the old paint wasn't going to flake off. And after I wiped off the chrome and dried them off, I painted em up with "honda black" (don't tell anyone lol) and "chrysler red" touch-up paint from Wal-Mart.

I just brushed on the black, but the key with the red in the R/T emblem is to overload the brush with paint and let it drip in where you want. The raised edges will let it pool up and fill the shape, otherwise you'd have pretty noticeable brush strokes across the whole thing.

Here's what they started out looking like (sorry for the kinda crappy blurry pics)

those look real good :icon_thumright:

The emblems look good. If you want a challenge on a grille, I've got one from a 76 volare with missing pieces that will give you a run for your money. Or is that a run for MY money.

You did a great job on the emblems, They look new!

Thanks guys! Pretty crazy 45 year old emblems can look brand new after a couple hours of some painting. About to lay the silver on my center section of the grille, what a pain in the *** taping that thing off. Definitely looking forward to having it done! :icon_pray:

Ooh missing pieces.. lol :thinker: if you want it restored go ahead and shoot me a PM with some pictures and I'll see if I can witch-doctor it up for ya! :icon_thumleft:
