So then I got the airbrush out and put 4-5 light coats of testers white enamel on. I waited about 5-10 minutes then removed the stencil.

And this happened! It pulled some of the black off. Insert blue streak of cussing. But the white looks good.

So I remask the white on the 2 gages and shoot the black again. Luckily I saved the pieces I removed.

So I touched up the white after the black and was finally happy with the black and white. So here's my advice if I were to do it again. I'd paint the faces completely white, then remove the small pieces and place them over the raised parts, then shoot the black on. So this is what I looked like by the time I finished.

So next I bought some #2-56 screws to reattach the faces back to the gauges. After I tightened the screws, I put a dab of silicone on the threads and nut to act as a locking agent.

So after I got the face on the speedo I checked it with the drill for function. It had erratic needle.

If you can see the 2 magnetic tabs, one was rubbing just a bit, so I opened it up a bit and it smoothed out the needle movement. So I put the first 3 tenths on the odometer with the drill. I wish I knew a rpm/mph check I could perform to see if it's close.

So I wanted to double check the voltmeter covers ion one more time.

I cut 1/4 inch foam in half, to 1/8 to about what the factory used.

Damn thats a lot of tedious work! It looks good though! ...but I am glad I kept my gauges weathered look lol. With the voltmeter mod, did you consider adjusting the tic marks to coincide with what the new gauge shows? Mine is low at idle, but on the middle with 14.6v so it works out.

Looks awesome!

If you were to consider doing these for some extra cash in retirement i could probably help keep you busy. I dont think my fingers are built for this kind of work...

Awesome work!! I did mine like 3 weeks ago but didn't do as much as you did!

The black paint was in good condition, so I just cleaned it up, then for the white marks, I used an white inked pencil. Then like you may in France we have Km/h instead of the mph/h, and I wanted to keep it original so just add some red marks (on the main corresponding speed limits here), on the white one once it was dry enough.

Nice job once again turns out great even with those little problems with the paint

PP1RT after doing one the next ones would be a snap. Now that I know what to look for. But I can see how people get big$ to do them, lot's of detail work.
BTW 3 yrs 6 mo. 14 days 5hrs, but whos counting, (retirement).
