69 Roadrunner restoration

A little more progress

It been hard to get time at the rr. But I managed to get the the entire inside of the car in epoxy primer. The floor pans were already done in yellow dupont, however I grinded some welds so it was then reprimed. I blasted the trunk area, inside roof area, top and bottom of package tray and wheel houses. All this was then primed in epoxy. After everything was in Gary epoxy I putty up the trunk and floor areas. Then it was reprimed again. (I don't have a pic of the last stage of primer)

I also epoxy primed and painted my p/s gear which was rebuilt by firm feel

Got some more work done on the rr. Fitted the pass AMD fender, had to take down the the inside lip as it rubbed the door while trying to close, also the bottom bolting bracket is a 1/2 inch to short.

Great job on getting the panels lined up! Keep plugging away at it!

Thanks Sheldon , Im hoping to finish all the welding tomorrow and then strip the outside of the shell and hit it with epoxy. I had to make a few modifications to the rear of the quarters, door jamb (the bottom corner where the door meets the quarter) and around the rear window trim.

a little more progress

Got a little more work done on the inside of the trunk cover, repaired the inside corner, then I epoxy primed it and, the next day fixed the dents with finishing putty. The majority of the dents were pulled with the uni spotter while it was in bare metal. After the dents were finished in putty I expoy primed over the putty this way all fillers and putty are sandwiched beteween epoxy. Then I gave it a couple coats of buff color high build primer.

I have to change the AMD rear quarters curve in the bumber area, like some many others also had to. I just had to slice it open and dolly the corner up and then make a small pie shape filler piece.

Update

image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgI never had a chance to post here recently, I don't get much of a chance to work on the car during the spring, summer and fall, most is done during the winter. But I did get the shell taken to bare metal over the summer and epoxy primed. Under a sticker on the door post I found the orignal color, I think it's R4. I also use a 2 part seam sealer in the trunk area, great product. As well I installed the us car tool lower rad support. I removed the old section, I liked the cleaner look as opposed to going over the old

The past week or so I have been working on the doors, I had to use a repair kit to replace the door latch area on both doors. Then I took the doors to bare metal inside and out , treated them with RM 801 metal conditioner and finally primed them in DuPont yellow expoxy primer. I have been using this primer on all the bare metal and after filler and putty I will reprimed again with the DuPont and a coat of car systems epoxy and them a yellow 2k high solids as I did a few posts back on the trunk cover.

That is the us car tool lower rad support, I thought it looked cleaner by removing the old rather than welding around the round holes. I seen someone else here on the site do it the same way and the finished product looked good.

I have not updated here in a while, I've have had way too many other projects, but i have made some progress. I have all the panels on the car, lined up stripped to bare metal, then coated in epoxy. After the epoxy the body work has been done and then the bodywork sealed in epoxy. I'll post a few random pics.

The car was given a light skim coat of 3m filler in areas for leveling. Then the bodywork was coated with epoxy

Looks great - making progress! Once they start becoming all one color (and not dented, rusted, etc.) it starts getting really fun!

Good luck and keep pressing on!

The RR doesn't look much different, but i have since sanded out the epoxy, its a PPG sand able epoxy. I found a few highs and lows, then sealed again in epoxy and after than i used PPG polyester primer which is a really high build primer/putty. I am now in the process of blocking out the polyester and then primer surfacer. Hopefully in the next few weeks i will be spraying under body color, looks like it will be R4.

Got a little more work done, drilled the holes for vinyl top molding and fitted the trim and rear window trim

High build primer has now been sprayed, now time for disassembly and get the engine bay, inside the car and under body ready for paint
