About to start on the 3" exhaust system and wondering about the muffler inlet/outlet configuration. I think the "offset" inlet will keep the pipes closer to the driveshaft but wondering about the outlet - centered or offset ??

Are you building from scratch or using a manufactured system?

I've get a 3 1/2 system on my car that only works cause the fuel cell is in the trunk.
I used an offset in, center out. The center out works better for tail pipes cause they are usually farther away from the shocks on the back of the rearend.
But then you might have clearance problems with the gas tank.

I'm building from scratch with pre-bent stuff - but I can cut and weld as necessary. At this point I have fabbed up short lengths to pass through the front crossmember humps. Next will be into an X pipe then out to the mufflers. The car has a stock tank and springs moved inboard. The tailpipes will run between the tank and frame rails but that doesn't look like it will be an issue (see atached photo of someone else's cars) I'm thinking offset outlets will be right under the hangers and a straight shot over the diff. Both of these guys are using center outlets.

Kent - I chose offset inlet and center outlet when my Road runner exhaust was installed back in August.
You can see in the photo that the back of the muffler had to be angled away from the driveshaft to get the tailpipe to fit properly.
In hindsight I should have went with offset in and out
BTW they are Borla mufflers with 2 1/2" stainless pipes.

My 3" system. In retrospect, I would/should have used 2 1/2" for tailpipes. I have been using OEM style hangers on the last two systems, just love 'em! Note the tie-bar on the exit hangers. Anti rattle insurance.

Very nice work! Looks like you used "aluminized" steel as opposed to stainless, correct? I'm leaning that way but 409 stainless is not much more money. Did you do all that yourself? Mig or tig? I'm leaning that way but 409 stainless is not much more money.

Correct. I assembled the system but, my mig welds weren't much to look at so I had a friend go over them with a tig welder. I cut U bends to get the angles I wanted with my carbide bladed chop saw. I had to improvise hold down clamps to hold the tubing for cutting.
