70 Hemi Superbird Restoration..................errr.....scratch that........

I would love to..... Soon, man, soon!!!

HAHA Kidding man! Watching every part of this thing coming together is fantastic! Just keep doing what you're doing when you have the time and the end result is going to be one of the baddest cars out there!

Cheers!

Took the fenders off today, stripped all of the undercoating off and removed all of the hardware. Dropping them off to be blasted on Monday. I took the hole saw to them to allow the turbos to go through them. I'll probably cut the area out directly underneath the holes so that I can drop the turbos out without unbolting each half of them.

I had an experienced body man helping me today, so that really sped things up. We fixed the driver's side rocker panel where I didn't get it in straight and now the door and quarter panel line up sooooo much better. We tack welded the quarters to the roof and started to button up the back end for the plug install. We also welded in the dutchman panel. We got the trunk gutters started on the driver's side and that's where we left off. Monday, we'll finish up the trunk gutters, add the trunk hinges and supports back in and get this thing on the rotisserie.

Yeah, I usually get more work done in winter than the other seasons. At the end of the month, I need to go pick up another major piece of the puzzle.

Cleaned the car out today of all the junk that has collected inside of it over the last year and mounted it up on the rotisserie. I still need to get the center bar in tomorrow and it'll be ready to spin over and get to the bottom welds without laying on the floor.

Tomorrow, we'll pick up where we left off on Saturday. We were working on the trunk gutters and dutchman. Then we'll get the bottoms of the wheel tubs welded to the trunk pan. Then it's trunk hinges and supports that need to be reinstalled and adapted to the wider wheel tubs.

This rotisserie is the shiznit fo shizzle.... lol.. We got the rest of the trunk gutters all welded up. The shell is plenty strong enough to be twirled about at any angle. We rolled it over to start on the leaf spring relocation mess. I need these boxes installed in order to have the chromoly chassis tied into it. We cut out one side frame rail and did that box first.

We lined up all the holes by running a 5/8-11 threaded rod all the way through the original hangers and my boxes. The original hole lines up with my bottom hole. I have two more holes on up allowing me to lower the car up to 4 inches. Combined with the -1" caltrac split monos, it'll be low.

Then we rolled the car over the other way and cut out the passenger side.

When you cut the frame supported on each end with the car tipped are sure the car didn't move out of square???

Gary

Loving the build.Question, what did you do to insure that the car remained square when cutting out the frame for the relocation?I would be afraid it would move .

It didn't move at all. I waited until I had the quarters on and the wheel tubs done before I put it on this thing. We contemplated bracing it just in case but decided to see what it would do. No movement. We did one side at a time as well, just in case.

We just did one side at a time. Zero movement.

Other side nearly finished. I just need to trim the box to the shape of the original frame rail.

Rolled the car over to put on the dutchman panel braces. Then I'll add the trunk hinge supports and modify them to fit with the widened wheel tubs.

I still need to grind all the welds and then add the trunk hinge supports.

I ordered a new fiberglass bolt on trunk lid today from Glasstek. Great quality and once painted, you can't tell it's not an original without examining it up close and personal.

Am I seeing right? That you did away with the box under the dutchman? Or do RRs not have those? I've had 70 RRs but can't remember. I like the idea of getting rid of that waste of space if that's what you did... I'm wanting a Glasstek trunk and hood, let us know how you like the lid. Great project you got here. My dream after the car I'm doing now and after I hit the lotto, would be to do what you're doing but to a 69 charger and make a dayclona. Then take it to Bonneville and get in the 200mph club. Love the winged cars! They really do rule!
