Yes I'd choke on that too! Kinda the same deal on my A12 carb base. I couldn't see paying 1K for one so bought the fiberglass one for 250$
Thanks Goon. These probably appear to be little things and slow progress when viewing this thread but I have an incredible amount of hours in the nose just get one side working. To me it's a huge milestone lol!SWEEEEEEEEEET!!!!!
So......I picked up some .187 wall 2x2 and made an extension for the rotisserie. Thanks Pat. Now I have to build an extension for the rotisserie to accommodate that big nose....
The green door came with the project. I'm assuming that they were planning on painting the car that color and did a test spray. It really stands out on the car but as much as I like that color, I'll never have a second FJ5 car I can't wait to get this one blasted and primed just to see it in one uniform shade of something. We'll be using DP90 epoxy so that'll be a good indicator of how the black will look. The color combo is OK, but why would you put one green door on it?!?!
As always, nice work and great pictures!
I'm really struggling with the paint scheme. Originally the plan called for flat black with carbon fiber hydrodipped trim, wheels, and decals. Then it warped into flat black with gloss black trim, wheels and decals. Now I'm gravitating toward a semi-gloss black with gloss black everything else. I've also contemplated a gloss black stock look with polished wheels and trim so I guess you can tell I have no idea at this point lol.Man I love this thread, crazy amount of work going into it but it's going to be one hell of a machine in the end. You by any chance going to throw some flat black over gloss black paint on it? I really like that look. Nice work.

Feel your pain, kind of. I had to do a lot of rear window frame fixing/rebuilding on my stock charger. That aero rear window plug/mod seems to me to be the toughest part of making a sbird or clona,. even if it fit right. I've heard of guys using cut out old Chevy Vega hatches., wonder how that could work/look right tho.Once I finish the window opening, I will add the sheet metal pieces that flush up the inside of the plug and hold the headliner teeth. Then the plug will come back off so the bead rolling in the rear corners can be put back in the correct place.
It works very well on the charger based Daytona clones. The bird clone is completely different. The rear window aero mod is the toughest part for sure.Feel your pain, kind of.
