Hi Guys,
I am planning on doing a filter change in my garage on my 70 Satellite, its a 383, 727 auto. It's been a long time since I have been down this road but can anyone tell me what kind of ATF to use and how many quarts of ATF I should buy? Thanks very much! :HappyNewYear:

this should start a good debate. I believe dexron is the reccommended but type f gives firmer shifts and some say a type of John deere hydraulic is best for racing

Dexron is the recommended fluid and is a better lubricant than type F. I also heard about adding some motor oil, but too much and your friction coefficient will be altered. I haven't heard about the John Deere fluid - interesting. Nothing runs like a Deere!! :rolling:

Use penzoil aft dextroxn III/Mercon. Smells better and looks like the fluids are suppose to. I used to use valvoline but it smells burnt and looks funk out of the bottle. Smell is something a guy looks for in trans fluid.

I know a guy who works for CAT and he runs 10W hydraulic fluid in the 727 in his Max Wedge. He says it works really well, and holds up better than ATF does
