75-76-77 B-bodies

every single 75-79 B Body has the opera style window. it could not be deleted or filled in from the factory. the only alteration is the louvered covering that came on the charger se and the magnum

You are wrong on the opera window, the 79 chrysler 300 had no louvers but had 300 etched into it. Also did not have a vinly roof also.

Yeah, that was not really an option, it came as part of the (A74)1979
Chrysler 300 complete package only. The louvered trim came as an option if
some type of vinyl top was ordered (Code-M07) Both were rough textured.
the non-vinyl trims were smooth surfaces.

YY1, I think your right about the 7 louver window trim I have, it came from a
Charger not a Cordoba?! :eusa_think:

This picture is what sparked my question about the opera window. It is very obvious this car does not have them.

Yeah, there was a guy around here that had one like that. He had the vinyl top replaced and had them cover the windows. It looled pretty good from the outside but when looked at from the inside it was clear what had been done. The interior trim had not been modified and the window glass was still visible.

Yep, seen a couple of guys do that in Nebraska. One of them was a black
Magnum, looked cool. The guy with the black one added diamond tuck in the
inner spot where the window was, but did not remove the glass inside!

Do you have pictures of the back interior?

Hey 1toolguy, I moved here from the Plant City area, but please don't hold
that against me.
:)

If you remember right the 82 to 89 fifth aves rear door still had the glass under the vinyl and cloth interior, just covered it over. As a matter of fact they still used the original rear window in the fiberglass cap.

I wouldn't remember that? I've never owned one. lol But a cool fact never
the less! :D I do know that the Charger Midnight Edition had a fiberglass top
piece that added a flare around the rear window and split the opera window
with a piece of brushed chrome! I did have that piece! :)

Chrysler engineers and stylist where very creative at this time, on how to change a car with modifications and make it look different. I remember a ad they had that showed a 5th ave and a horizon for the same price as a cadillac. And believe me the chrysler was equal to the cadillac at that time.

I have a fifth Ave, and yes it does. I suspected that, and confirmed it.

Covering the opera window, IMO, works on a Cutlass, but maybe not so much on a Charger. Maybe that's a bad angle in the photo.
There was a custom shop in OH, that did LOTS of 74-77 Cutlasses, and that was one of their signatures, along with filled and painted bumpers, shaved door handles, and very high metal flake paint, sometimes with two faded colors.

I think I've seen a different opera treatment on the midnights. One with multiple horizontals. Keyword- THINK.

BTW the 75-76 Coronet and Fury did NOT have opera windows (there's even one in this thread).

Well to be fair, every car was equal or better than those year Cadillac's. LOL!

Remember the Cadillac Cavalier, I mean the Cadillac Cimarron
cadillac_cimarron_black_1987.jpg

Personaly seen three of these burning on the sides of the road! LMAO!

Ah, the Cinnamon...has to be one of the top three WORST badge enginerring disguises.

I retract my statement.

It is THE WORST.

If you approach it from the rear or side, you can't tell it's supposed to be a cadillac until you see the grille.

You have to admit that chrysler did alot better job.
LOL, Any thing was a better job then Chevy's re-badging cars?! :confused5:

Oh, come on, it had lower side ribbings so it totally looked like something
else! lol
I seem to remember that the Cimarron cost quite a bit more than the
Cavalier? Must have been that fancy grill? :eusa_think:

You mean like the pontiac version?

what do you mean? ALL 75-79 chargers/magnums/cordobas either got a window or a louver treatment. they were NEVER filled up solid from the factory. any filled window has been done AFTER it left the factory

I think furyfrank only meant to say that the 300's windows had something
different that what we were talking about rather that have just the trim?

hmmmm, all im saying is that the windows were never filled solid from the factory. there were a few different styles and types of treatments, but never smoothed over with a vinyl top. ever seen a cordoba ragtop ? these conversions were done by a company after the fact. check out the history thread i just bumped

Yeah, your right I've never heard of them from the factory! Just after market!
No option code for it! :confused5:

To add my 2 cents, I remember in the 70's and 80's a lot of dealers used to order cars without the vinyl roofs, and then put on their own at the dealership and charge twice as much for them. And they were really crappy quality. They would just cover over the opera windows because it was cheaper than cutting them out and fitting in trim, and then they usually glued some kind of cover on the inside windows to make it look fancy. Then after a couple of years when they would peel off and rust bubbles showed up, the customer would blame the factory because they didn't know it was a dealer installed item.

I don't remember many Chryslers with them, but I sure remember a lot of Lincoln-Mercury, Oldsmobile, and Buick dealers that did.
