8.75 rear end/ axle questions?

Not sure what the Ramchargers used......

Yup been machining them for a long time now and the first one I did was over 25 years ago.

Here's the difference between a clutch type 8 3/4 and a Dana 60

Even tho the Dana 60 weight about 50 lbs more on average, I think they are worth it but there's a lot of people running hard with the 8 3/4 too. My level of pucker stops around the low 11 second range with a 3600 lb car and for sure if it's a 4 speed.

Like I said I dont race alot but I try to get out a few times a year and I still have stock axles. I have run a few different tracks and none of them have said anything about it. The only thing they told me was to put my fire jacket on when I forgot to. You would be surprised to know how stock my 727 trans is also. I worked at a Dodge dealer for 24 years and I have a nice stock of 727 clutches and steels as I used all stock clutches. I use a bolt in overrunning clutch I put in it along with the turbo action reverse manual V/B and a Dynamic 9.5 converter. Everything else in my 727 is stock. If I raced alot I would have to make some updates like axles and front trans drum which I plan to do both but I honestly cant afford to now as living on disability its tuff to spend $500 to a $1000 on my car. I hope to race just once in about 2 months (Oct 18th) and I only want to make a few passes and so far I have had no issue's so I hope it holds together. But if it breaks then I just have to fix it. I dont recomend anyone who races a car alot to run stock axles as I dont street race in fact I drive it easy on the street so with a few passes a year I have been lucky. Ron

I have. TKO 600 in my car. Last year I broke a Strange axle in my 8 3/4 742 case. Really don't think it was a flaw in the axle but it was more to do with being stupid. I was messing with my line lock and practicing my launch and my foot slipped off the clutch at a little too high an RPM. But I run a 4500 pound tank so that has an effect too!
I have Doctor Diff axles now and raced at the track last weekend and had no issues. But I am a bit gun shy I will admit.
If I break another axle a Dana will be in the future.

What series Strange axle did you break?

According to my invoice.

I'm with you there Ron. I did my "every weekend" racing 35 years ago, and remember how much work it was. At 59 years old, I'll just make a few "test-n-tune" nights a year at the strip, go to some cruise night gatherings and be happy tinkering and shining on it.
I ended up buying this #489 case chunk from the used parts/speed shop, the $300 one was gone, this one cost me $550, he was wanting $600. May not be a great deal but I hate chasing stuff trying to save a buck. It is suppose to be very well built, has 4.56 gears and is very clean., not used much since rebuild. It will have to do for now. I'm thinking the 4.56 gears will be about what I want for the strip and occasional local street drives? I'm not into long distance driving.
Thnx for the schooling guys.
