Hello
need advice on a few things. 64' Polara / mid 80's 360 stroked and poked to 408

- I want to get the original instruments working. Look to be in good shape.
-oil press and coolant not functioning. Figure I need sending units for both. What do you all suggest?
-speedo pulsates and is 20-40mph over. Spur gear?
Thank you!

I would assume 64 318 sending units will adapt to your 360 block(Advance Auto, NAPA, or Rock Auto.com). Sounds like your speedo cable is either kinked or dry internally(inner cable needs lubing), or your speedo head has a problem. As far as being off 20-40 mph, if you have changed the rear end ratio, you will have to change speedo gear accordingly.

You can test your dash gauges easily. Just remove the wire off the sending unit, ground it, and then turn the ignition key on. The gauge should start to move, turn key off before it pegs. If gauge moves, the sending unit is bad. Both of your gauges and your fuel gauge only use 5v of power to operate. There is a voltage limiter on the back of the instrument cluster that can fail, and will cause all three of your gauges (64 Dodge B-body- oil pressure, temp, fuel) not to work, or, may let too much voltage through and ruin a gauge. (64 Plymouth only has fuel and temp) You can get parts at Radio Shack to build a solid state limiter, it's cheap and easy. If you remove instrument cluster, you can test your gauges with two "D" cell batteries-that's three volts, and will move gauge halfway to bench test them.
