Ok so I built my first motor, for my 1967 GTX. 440 based 512 with an RPM Performer intake with Atomic throttle body. Of all things that I can't seem to solve is getting the air cleaner to fit under the hood. I want to use the original dual snorkel cleaner. I have tried virtually every drop base that Summit sells. The main interference is the kick down. The solution that I think will work is to install a Lokar kick down cable. By looking at pics it seems that the Lokar will mount lower and give me some more room. Does that sound like a decent idea? Or is there another way?

Only have a photo of a Lokar cable on a Hemi single 4 bbl.
But it will be lower and under the throttle cable. That bracket is from Indy Cylinder Head and is actually for a 440 RB.It is adjustable and you can see I have it mounted in the bottom holes. You may want to try something like this to lower the throttle cable and kick down.

If you do decide to keep that kickdown setup you may want to adjust it so the throttle pin is at the rear of the slot with minimal clearance. It should move along with throttle opening and reach maximum travel simultaneously. The way it is now it may not provide enough line pressure at increased throttle opening.

I feel your pain.
I have a beautiful spun aluminum (looks like the original super tricks and centerlines) drop base aircleaner. It wasnt cheap. (B&B?). It sits on my shelf, and i look at it. The drop on the base is so severe that it clears nothing. Not kickdown, not throttle linkage, not fuel lines, not fuel fittings, nothing!
Have you tried the repop L88 drop base? Almost everybody that i know that has tried them say they work. If your cover is larger in diameter, and will fit over the L88 base, you can adjust height by the height of the filter element. (The L88, ramair poncho is the one shaped to go over a cathedral bowl holley.)

You might just have to change the intake to a regular performer or something similar.
That's what my brother did with his 67 satellite

Thanks for the input everyone! Going to order up the Lokar stuff. Thought there might be a magic bullet. But what's another $250!

One thing you need to be aware of, drop base means your cutting off air flow... Take your drop base & look from the carb hole and see how much room you have from the base to the lid... I've see air cleaners with less than 1/2" between the base & lid... Not a good thing...
