Am I screwed up when I miss a pet over a human??

If so, then I'm screwed up!! I miss my dad a lot and over any pet but....my pets have been way better than any woman that's ever been in my life and I've given it a lot of thought. Maybe I need to be more picky about the women that come into my life.....
Nope.. my last dog died 9 years ago and i miss it more than even family members.. it's kinda fucked up.

Pets don’t lie, cheat, or steal. Ok, maybe steal an occasional sandwich left to close to edge of the table. As 440 already said, they give you unconditional love.

I assume we have dogs under consideration.
If that is the case, I'll throw a bone to cat lovers.
I like cats fine , outside where they can do their mischief.
I will pet cats as allowed, familiars of witches they may be. And infants who smell of milk aside.
However, regarding cats I would make two objective observations.
1. If you where small enough your cat would probably kill and eat you.
Here’s Scientific Proof Your Cat Will Eat Almost Anything
2. The next time there is need for a search or rescue, try a cat.
Imagine the joy of a trapped person to hear barking.

For what it's worth, I lost my little dog buddy a few months back and I miss him every day. Except for
family, I can't think of any person from the past that I really miss on a continuous basis.
Sorry for your loss.....I know all too well it's not easy.

Humans are flawed. Pets are not flawed.
Pets are flawed, but not in our eyes because of the way most of us are wired, they can do no wrong. Humans are the thing we scrutinize for the dislikes, the ones we don't look for in our dogs, they're perfect, till they crap in the house, which we immediately forgive. In the back of our minds we also remember that our dogs will only be with us a short time versus the 44 years my wife has been with me. Two different animals, with two different sets of boundaries. Look for unconditional love in a women that you find in a dog, it's out there.

To put things in perspective, lock your best friend and your dog in the trunk of your car. After 4 hours, unlock the trunk and see who is happiest to see you.

Not really Pets are up there as we treat them just like kids… We spent 2k on a mallard duck for her broken leg and then took her on vacation for a week cause she needed special care and it happened days before vacation… Here she was caged on the lake..

I live on a lake front with ducks, geese, herons , kingfishers - you name it. The ducks are kind of the comedians of the bunch with their raucous quacking, afternoon duck races, bottoms-up dabbling? But, they will mate with whoever comes along and drakes don’t take no from a hen for an answer. Duck rape is pretty common. They are pretty lack-a-dasical about their ducklings. I’ve seen my wife run out into the yard to tell one heading back to the lake with only part of her offspring - hollering at her to wait and come back and get the rest. Surprisingly she stopped, turned, looked at my wife and came waddling back up to collect the rest of them. The ducklings are totally unorganized and undisciplined and look like a bunch of kindergardners on a field trip. But the half like of a duckling is about a week on average on our lake. I call it “duck trolling for bass”. They will show up with a litter of 8 ducklings one day, 7 the next, 6 the day after, 5 the day after that. Lucky if 2 or 3 of them make it.

In contrast the geese are organized, usually very dignified acting, and they are monogamous. They watch over their young intently - nothing gets by one of them. When they venture out the male is in the lead, the young are following single file in line, close spaced, and the female brings up the rear - no antics. Almost looks like a parade March. They go to great effort to train their young, demonstrating takeoffs for flight, landings, and bathing (such as it is). Any perceived threat (me - when I’m running them out of the yard) is met with charges, hissing, wing flapping, snapping, etc. But you have to keep them out of the yard as they will **** up a lawn in no time.

I told my wife I think the ducks are the liberals and the geese are the conservatives. But I don’t know how to excuse the geese’s manure production.

Well said!! LOL

The only woman that ever loved me more than my dogs (especially the deaf one) was my mom, maybe. May be why I never married.

To answer your question - No, you are not screwed up. I cried like a baby when I lost my last three dogs - one died from old age and a weak heart, one because of inoperable liver cancer, and one was killed when the garage door crushed her. All were devastating to me.

What's odd is that I had little reaction to losing various cats over the past twenty-five years...except Al. He was my first cat, from 1984 until 2001. He lost a bunch of weight, and he just walked out into the pasture to die on his terms.
