Another bad electric car fire...

Modern cars with electric door locks I've had opened normally with a pull of the handle, even if locked
(and they are locked, since that's also automatic when the car starts moving).
These electric cars that don't have that feature befuddle me - why would they design it like that?

EDIT: It's because the doors don't unlatch via mechanical means, isn't it?
Hadn't thought of that. Yeah, a solenoid ain't going to work without power. That needs to be made illegal, if it's the case.

It may very well be illegal. The Tesla Model S, Model Y, Model 3 and Model X can all be opened manually when the power fails. But good luck opening the rear gull wing door on the X if you don't read the manual first.

Lee Co. man killed in fiery crash

My 97 Viper GTS had electricity operated door handles, but there was a manual release on the inside of the door in case of emergency.

I was talking to a guy earlier who lives in a beachside highrise here. He said electric vehicles are not allowed to be charged in the basement carpark due to the fire risk. If one goes up in flames it could compromise the whole tower. I don't think this is the law here but is the decision of the individual building manager / body corporate. It certainly raises a few questions though as imagine a basement carpark full of them on fire. Towering Inferno.

What country dominates EV battery production? China. What could possibly go wrong?

Ford just filed for a patent to shutdown their electric vehicles if payments are not made and also in case of martial law.

They can already do this to the Tesla vehicles

Another reason not to buy electric cars....

Doesn't matter if they're electric, gas powered cars can now be shut down as well. For example, if your car is stolen and you give OnStar the police report, they can shut down the car remotely. They can even lock the doors so the thief can't get out. As well, with GPS they will know exactly where the car is. Interesting that Ford has to patent something that GM has been using for awhile.

It is logical that in the wrong hands, such technology could also be used against the real owner.
