I have this cam kit in a 400 smogger motor. 8/1 CR. I agree with all replies above, need to know more and what your goal is.
This is what I have: stock 1977 400 with 8/1 CR, performer intake, Edelbrock 800cfm carb, Stealth heads, Thumper cam kit, 1 5/8 long tube headers, Progression ignition system, stock converter with stock 727.
I fought this combo for 7 years with the Chrysler electronic ignition system. Ran like crap, would not idle, and had no power, hell I could not even power brake and get the tires to turn over. I changed the carb to a Holley 600cfm no change. This summer after rebuilding the Edelbrock for the 3rd time I asked for some advice on here. My ignition system quit, so I upgraded to the Progression and took Geoff 2 advice and gave the engine lots of timing. I ended up at 42* at idle and my carb problems went away, along with the major unburnt gas smell. I now can get the tires to spin just by stabbing the gas.
I'm now looking at getting a smaller less split duration cam and putting in some higher compression pistons in it. The cam sounds bad ***, but when the rest of the package doesn't work and you can't enjoy it, it gets old real quick. Just my .02
