My brand new 440 in my 64 Fury is running a tad hot according to the autometer gauge I have -220 degrees.A pyrometer shows it at 200 degrees.I'm running a .509 cam with stealth heads-TTI headers-six pack pistons.I feel like I'm driving the Melrose missle with the hood ornament being the gunsight-I'm very happy with the performance.I have a Griffin radiator with two fans and shroud.Did I screw up buying the 440 source waterpump or am I paranoid thinking 220 is too hot-I have a 160 degree thermostat. My mechanic drag racing freind suggested I remove the shroud and the fans-blast it down the highway and see if it cools down and if it does cooldown to drill a bunch of holes in the shroud-Any suggestions would be appreciated- Thanks

Running the pump, housing and waterneck on my '63. Beat the piss out of it and never see's over 190° on my 440. I am using the factory Mopar clutch fan with the shorter Jag clutch and no shroud.

i would check the basics first, start with the radiator cap, the system needs to build pressure when the car is hot, squeeze the radiator hose, it should be hard, if its soft then i would replace the cap, i prefer a 16 psi "none vented", then i would loose the thermostat, that should really cool the motor down,

also check your fans, are wired the correctly and the motors are turning the right direction, they could be pushing, instead of pulling or viceversa.

Good Luck ! !

how fresh is the engine build? ditto on the rest above
. runs hot when straight driving over 30 mph?

I bought there pump but havent used it yet hope it works well, also bought there 4.5 stroker windage tray and its a nice quality part and says made in the usa which is always a plus.

I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with the bolded mopar brother. Agree with the rest but would go along with the several other commenters and run a clutch fan and fan shroud.

I'm using a 440 source pump and housing in my 505 stroker. Using a 22" radiator. No problems.

I have one that dumps on the passenger side and using the pump as well and it all works great for me never goes past 210 even on the hottest days in traffic.

Do not loose your stat it's there for a reason.

I Run A 440Source Water Pump And Housing With Their Aluminum Heads. There's Nothing Wrong With Them At All! You Have Other Cooling Problems Somewhere! To Say Their Trash By Someone Is Stupid!

I have the 440 Source pump and housing and don't have overheating problems. Mancini aluminum 22" radiator, shroud and 17" 6 blade fan with a 1" spacer. No room for even the Jag clutch unit. 180* thermostat and it will run right at 180*. Sit in traffic on a hot (100*) day and it will go 200. Works for me.

I installed the 440 source waterpump & housing on my 440. Before I started the engine I started reading on dodgechargers.com about guys having overheating problems with this combo. A bought a 70 something 440 new yorker with air water pump from a local auto part store. That water pump had a much deeper rotor than the 440 source piece. I also bought a water pump housing from mancini and the water ports were a lot bigger.
I haven't had any overheating problems with my 440 but since I didn't use the 440 source parts I can't say that I would have if I had used there stuff. But just looking at it I could see a difference.
