I’m reluctant to ask after the Bells Palsey fiasco but I would be interested in swapping notes with others. Real experiences, not internet stories.
Back story: I got zapped by a scorpion in Mexico yesterday. Painful, but not the end of the world. But it is a nerve poison and I am surprised at the other effects. Anyone else have experience in this?

Not directly a scorpion story, but it made me think of a story my dad told me about dealing with such critters when he was in the New Guinea jungle during his WWII service. He always shook his boots out to make sure they were scorpion free, and kept them close to his cot, in case of a quick evacuation. One night he noticed a huge, multi-colored centipede hanging over him on copper tent screen above him. He crushed it with his boot, and the next morning, the critter's juices had eaten away the copper. Some nasty stuff in that environment. Dad had a close call with a scorpion stinging him on the thumb nail during a boot shake, but never took a full hit.

Boy, you really travelled south to get "zapped" by a scorpion! Stick with the Polar Bears,
they can't sneak up to you so easily!

Yes. They are abundant around here. Occasionally they get into the house. One night, dark room, I stepped on what felt like a needle. So turned the light on, searched the carpet for the needle, spotted a scorpion hiding next to a cabinet. The sting was similar to a bee sting. The area around the sting turned red and swollen again similar to bee sting. Lasted only a day or so. No big deal in my case. I believe a primary concern, as with most stings/bites, is an allergic reaction.

Thanks, my experience was similar except that it hurt more, longer. I sat down and one got me on the inside of my thigh. Burning pain for about 16 hours, then a sort of tingling sensation for about eight hours but it is diminishing now.

I was - on June 13th, 1980. Been a fan ever since.

Sorry - I couldn't resist. :p

Met a fellow that fought in Egypt to chase Rommel down. Every morning that they had their boots off they would shake them out in case of scorpions,

Not sure on this, but I've heard somewhere, that peyote may "ease" the effects ???

Scorps, AC/DC and Ted would be a great show. My first concert, also in ‘79 was Van Halen when they were still young and hungry, before they became a pop band. Saw Ted with Heart and Blue Oyster Cult in ‘81. Also a great show.

Depends on the type of scorpion. I got stung by a little bark scorpion which is the worst one in Arizona and got slight flu like symptoms for a day or so. Pretty intense sting.

Not sure what they are called in Mexico. This one was few inches and brown. Initially the sting wasn’t bad at all, then kicked in, hard. Terrible burning for about 16 hours, then into a numbness and tingling for about 8 or 10 hours. My entire body had that strong tingling sensation that you get when your arm falls asleep. It gradually faded but I still feel it a little bit two days later.
