So what’s the best Christmas present you got that was made for you instead of being purchased? I”ll start… Years ago my wife got an old small farm table from a customer of ours that was her table as a child so that became our kitchen table. Over the years it has just been too small so our son made us a new black walnut table top from black walnut boards that were cut from trees at the mansion back in the 90’s. After getting them to the proper moisture rating he wanted for a few weeks he started making it. Took him a few days. It turned out beautiful and fits on the base perfectly. Here it is in bare wood. It still needs to be cleared which he is going to do tomorrow but what a nice thoughtful hand crafted gift.

My grand daughter draw a picture of a dirtbike and they had it printed on a pair of socks. They bought the socks but it was kind of made

Nutten' this year, from homemade variety, I like them the best

'unless someone gets me a gun or ammo, or car parts :poke:

My daughter has always been very artistic.

When my daughter was about 7, she painted this small picture based on a photograph my wife had taken of me helping her fishing. It's no Picasso painting, but considering her age I thought it was pretty good. Regardless of how good it is, she made it for me, just because...

Years later, my wife asked for something that complimented our one wall. She said she wanted a horse in motion, but with colors that matched the wall. This is what my daughter painted:

Neither of these are probably worth much dollar wise, but to us they are precious!

When we were kids, my mama had a wall hanging that was popular in the 50's and 60's.
They were called something like "Stairway to the Moon" and were typically made of some sort
of inexpensive wood, usually stained + shellac'ed.
Very common in those days - they sold them in "kits" for the DIY'ers or as completed units:

I know she got hers from a door-to-door salesman who came by one day, selling them to raise
funds for some charity; I remember seeing that thing on the wall right in sight as we kids came in
through the front door every day.

I always wanted to get it when she passed away, more than 30 years ago now....to no avail.
I had forgotten about it all these years later, chalking it up to yet another missed opportunity of younger
times - that is, until I opened a package from my younger brother this morning:

That rascal. He remembered, all these years later - and had endeavored to try to re-create the one we
knew as kids to boot.
As far as I'm concerned - close enough.
Wouldn't take a million bucks for it.

I've told this story before... 33 years ago I was working on getting my car ready for paint... While I was working my day job few friends loaded up in the car & did a big smoky burnout... And took a photo... That year Christmas day my buddy Mike stopped by & dropped off a gift... That photo, framed... It's currently sitting on a dresser just over my left shoulder... Still makes me smile every time I look at it....

As a kid, our grandmother used to give all of us, kids and parents included, a sleeve of 4 bars of Cashmere Bouquet soap as a gift. When it was Christmas morning, we (kids) were allowed to open one gift before our parents woke up, so instead of shaking the presents, we would sniff each package to make sure we weren’t opening the soap. Nobody wanted to play with soap as their first gift.

Fast forward to last year. I must’ve mentioned that as a great memory to my Mom, who made me a gift of a memory album of the history of the Cashmere Bouquet company, and on every page she taped a little mini bar of Cashmere Bouquet soap. As I sniffed each little bar of soap, all those memories of being a kid, my grandma, Christmas, all of it came rushing in and I started to cry. I still do, just thinking about it. We had a great childhood with great parents, siblings, grandparents and relatives, and I will cherish that album until the day I die.

And of course the classic milk crate drivers seat. Priceless!

My wife's Christmas cookies, and fruit cake. I don't ask for much more than that, although I did add a pumpkin pie this year, since it got left out at Thanksgiving Dinner !!!

Without question... anything that was made by my kids over the years. And now by my grandkids.

I got cash. It was made at the mint and my MIL made it again.

She has some serious skill IMO
that 1st one at 7 y/o is awesome for that age or even a bit older...
Love that horse painting...

My mom rest her soul, was a prolific painter, I liked her animals best
she did some cool ships, ocean, docks or seascapes scenery, waves breaking on beaches
(I loved surfing when younger), lots of mountains stuff, flower in meadows etc.
& she painted some cool 'big cats', lions, tigers, panther/jaguar, lynx & bobcat
when she was teaching at the JC (for shits & giggles) with no formal training ever
& my (2 of them) sisters would sit there & learn too...
Mom even did a couple motorcycles for me, with some serious details,
nuts screws chrome looked realistic etc.
from a Husqvarna & a Bultaco mx/dirt-bikes I had taken photos of mine,
she copied/painted on lil' like 8" x 8" canvas etc. too
(wish I knew where they were now)
When she died, I gave most of them to my sisters, I have a bunch still,
I had well over 120 of her paintings
I should take some photos of some of hers & share, only have a few here now
some not even on the walls, too much art work already...

2 of my 5 sisters were really artistic too, my youngest & oldest sisters
could have made $$ off their talent, perused other stuff

When we lived in Canada, my mom and dad made most things due to lack of funds. My mother made these coats for my father, brother, and I one year. I eventually grew into my brothers, and he grew into my fathers. I was very proud of it..........Thanks for the trip back, I haven't thought about that in years.
