Took this pic at norcal scrapyard years ago.
48 700lb bales of aluminum license plates to be smelted.
Mostly Oregon/Washington plates.
17 tons of license plates!!!!

Kīlauea Pu‘u ‘O‘o vent eruption in Volcano National Park on Hawaii. I took this photo from approx. 10-15 yards away from the cliff face. The ground under my feet was noticeably warm - not melt your shoes hot, but definitely warm and you could see glowing lava several feet below through cracks in the ground. I probably wouldn't have hiked so close by myself, but I caught up to 2 of the park rangers who were going out to check on the flow so I hung with them which was pretty cool.

I came upon this flow oozing slowly across the ground as I was hiking back to the car and was able to get within about 10 ft as I was upwind.
