best tire combo? 275/60/15 rear.. 235/60/15 looks short for front.

I am a 295 dude also myself. I have them on 4 different rear sets of wheels.

so now on fence about going 295 50 rear, and leaving the 235 60 i have on front now.. selling the rear 275 60s for a loss instead of the 235 60s ... LOL. I'd like the bigger front tires though to fill up the wheel well a tad more, but those 295 50s DO look sweet, and interesting they will fit on an 8" wheel !!!!

9” section width or tread width?

235 is the tread width

50 - 60 -70 is the aspect ratio. The sidewall height of 50 series is 50% of tread width or. 60 series is 60%, 70 is 70%

Section width is the sidewall bulge on the recommended rim width

There’s all kinds of tire dimension charts on the web so you can compare all the sizes.
Nope. Tire designations indicate, section width. So, on the checking rim, a 235 is supposed to be somewhere around 235mm section width.
Other than that, right!

the GY polyglass G60 is similar in size to a 245/60 15. Goodyear Polyglas GT RWL E/S | G60-15
loved the size of the G60.
may end up with a 245/60 front, and the 295/50 rear. LOL
Both 26.6 tall, the 295/50 is 11.6 wide, 245/60 is 9.6 wide

Anyone near tampa need a new a pair of 275/60 and a pair of 235/60 ?

Yes, all 4 sets of mine are on 8" wide wheels.

my gtx came with G60-15 polyglass tires, so would they be same HEIGHT as the 235/70?? just wider than the G70-15 polyglass?? .. loved the size of them, especially on the front. not pleased with the 235/60's we have on front now, I want to go taller and close to 9" wide on the tire, like the 225/70 ? maybe i should go 235/70 fronts.. they are 28" tall just like the rear 275/60's on the back, and they are just as wide as the 235/60's i have now (9.3" wide)
My car is a 67, but 235/70 on the front w

hich fit and look good IMO, and of course the aforementioned 295/50 on the back.. which work well because the leafsprings are " stout"

Edit, it's sitting up high because there's just a shortblock in it

You do need a new alignment after adjusting torsion bars, but I'd only do it after I've finalized the front height with your chosen tire and stance. Just don't drive the car much till then.

I run 275/60/15 (28" tall) on the rear of my 68 Satellite and like them, but have often considered going 255/60/15 or 295/50/15 for better balance with the fronts.
I currently run 215/70/15 on front (26.8" tall) with the 275/60/15 rears, but I also use 1" lower leaf springs.

I tried 235/60/15 in front and agree they look small. These are 26" tall. I wouldn't use those.
I also tried 225/70/15. They work, but on my 6" rim looked and felt funny to me. They work though.
I've seen several photos of 255/60/15's on the front of some 68-70 B-bodies. I think they bulge too much and look terrible.

My pick for the fronts would be either 245/60/15 on 8" rim (some say 7" rim works for these also) or 215/70/15 on 7" rim or 6" rim and then the rears 275/60/15, 295/50/15 245/60/15 or 215/70/15. I've seen several guys run 295/50/15 rear and 245/60/15 fronts or 255/60/15 with 245/60/15 fronts and both look like perfect combos to me, but costs money to change tires and wheels...

Remember also that a taller rear tire will lower engine rpm at freeway speed and decrease torque from a stop. What's your engine and rear end gears?

It's all personal taste. One recommendation - don't sell your current owned tires/wheels until you settle on the one you end up liking most. You may find something you don't like about the new ones that you won't know until you try. One thing is for sure though - selling tires minus wheels is not easy. I sold my 235/60/15 and 225/70/15 for a dear loss each time and it took over 6mo to sell.

323 gears it appears based on what folks on this forum said before when i asked about mph vs my rpm, and that i had the stock height G60 gy plygls tires before.. Rims are 8" all around so I have a good choice of tire sizes available ! 440ci, single 4brl carb, mild cam, alum heads but mild from what we can tell, 727 3 speed auto.

I agree with your views, likely going with 245/60 15s up front (and they were same size as the G60 polyglass that were on there), and 295 50 rears. the new leaf springs brought up the rear a bit i had looked for . and even going back to stock shackles, with the 275/60's on back, the rear is darn high. this is my tire choice for now.. LOL.. was gonna just get 225/70's to replace the shorter 235/60's and keep the 275/60's on the back. will see. And will likely get the alignment checked again once it's all sorted and i sell at a loss the tires i'm not using.

It’s all personal preference. I like balanced tire height. These are 225-70 front, 255-60 rear.

I’m not a fan of huge rear tires. But traction is very important. For a street car, compound is more important than width for traction. If I could get this compound in a 235-70, that’s what I’d run.

these are darn close, the 225 70 is .4" taller than the 255 60.. i'm likely going with 295 50 R, 245 60 F and they are the same heights. 26.6" tall . I just cruise around in this car, so compound grip isn't super important so went with they typical BFG radials.

Was gonna keep the 275 60 rears on there now, and just replace the 235 60 up front with that 225 70, but the rears just look SOOO tall to me after having the GY Poly G60's on there before. Anyone need tires?? LOL. I have four very good condition G60's and will have 2 like new 275 60s and 2 like new 235 60s..

Measure to see if the 235 - 70 will fit on yours to balance the 275-60. Some folks have luck with the 235s on the front, apparently others do not.

with those 3.23 gears and 727, I think you'll enjoy the 295/50/15 or 255/60/15 rears more since they're shorter than the 275/60/15.
I think you're 295/50/15 Rear with 245/60/15 front combo is perfect. Only thing is those 295/50 tires could really use a 9" wheel instead of 8". If you want to keep the 8" wheel then run a 255/60/15 rear.

Just remembered, at Track Day Willow Springs it was pushed hard and the left rear inside tire just barely kissed the leaf spring. Has never happened again in street use. Barely detectable evidence.
Coopers.

and your 295 50s are on stock-ish sized 15 x 8 wheels?
about to pull trigger on 295 50s and most comments are saying they WILL work on 8" wheels. BFG site says they will fit on a rim width range from 8" to 10.5", but then says "measured rim" of 9.5" ? wonder what these 2 things mean..
