"Blind in Texas" '71 Dart build

May just do it satin/chassis black. Any recommendations on what to spray it with?

Dart's looking sharp man! Wish I was around to actually work on mine LOL. Glad to see you getting some time to spend with yours. As far as the bottom side, myself i'd use a decent truck bedliner like SEM Rock-it liner or Raptor. Cut's down road noise, heat transfer into the car, road vibration, is tough as nails and you don't have to work about knicks/chips/dings exposing bare metal to rust out. I don't think it would take too well directly to an etch primer though. Anyways...just my 2 cents. Keep up the good work!

Thanks! And where are you? Yes,I'm trying to get it prepped and the bodywork done. It is so time consuming. A couple of buddy's suggested the bedliner route...should I paint the bottom then bedliner it?

Stuck in St. Cloud Minnesota currently chargin, but home is Northeast Wisconsin area. I don't know if i'd waste the time/effort/money to paint the bottom if you're going to coat the bottom anyways, but that's just me. A good epoxy primer from someone like PPG or Southern Polyurethanes would do the trick. Recently on my bird I applied a couple coat's of Rust Bullet before the bedliner. Not because I was trying to cover rust (it was all fresh clean metal), but just to seal it up and act like a nice barrier under the liner. Kind of a double wammy for keeping the rust away, and making it even more rugged. I hear ya on the body work! Sure get's old quick!

Thanks,I'll blast it with epoxy then bedliner. I'm using PPG paints.

Nice car your father has there! I had a tube chassis '71 scamp many years ago,I never finished it.

Cool beans! Good luck. Here's the kit I use:

http://www.tcpglobal.com/autobodydepot/sembedliner.aspx

Comes with everything you need (including the gun), but accessory wise you'll obviously need an air compressor and regulator. You can buy black or tintable. 1 kit should cover you for an undercarriage. Whatever route you go with the brand of bedliner you use, be sure to scuff the primer well with 220g or so before applying. Guessing you already know that, but just throwing it out there.

Great info Prop; That's where I get my paint,I'll order some asap. No I didn't know I had to scuff it,but I'll be sure to do so.

Dont like them as much as b bodies! I see you have a gorgeous 68 charger, what do you have for a power plant and is it 4 link or ladder bar car?

Owned 2 Darts, a 67 and a 69 back in the 70's and then a 71 Duster drag car that ran high 9's but I bought turn key around 2001 or so. The Duster pretty much drove itself! But, I too like the more room that a B body offers.

Thanks for the compliment on the Charger. Is that yours in your avatar? If so,it looks like a bad a$$ '68! Mine is on ladders,2x3 tube back half job, been through a couple re-creations. It has a 474 in it,very crisp engine. It's a street car. Here are a couple pics.Scan 18.jpgScan 25.jpgScan 27.jpg I plan on making some changes to it as soon as possible.

I decided to cut out one section and install one piece, smooth it out.IMG-20140202-00169.jpgIMG-20140202-00170.jpgIMG-20140208-00171.jpg

I've been plugging away at the bodywork. Roof, quarters, inside of the doors, and door jambs. Going well, not much work on it.IMG-20131215-00128.jpgIMG-20131215-00129.jpgIMG-20131221-00130.jpg

I see you've gotten a lot done since the last time I was on here. Looks great.

looking real good thanks for the updates keep them coming :blob1:

Lots of sanding going on....the body line on the quarter is in the perfect location to be distorted by stuff rolling around it the trunk! I find that lower line a real bi!ch to get right! IMG-20131229-00145.jpgIMG-20140122-00154.jpgIMG-20140124-00156.jpgIMG-20140323-00208.jpg

Looking good. A project is a project in my book so keep posting away. Who the hell am I to be bitching anyway if I didn't like it, but I like it.

Thanks freak,I'm also going back and forth, doing some body work on the Bee. Trying to get the body finished up on it also. Have you been at yours?

My wife and I just finished moving and I have to close in the carport for the new shop space which is 23.5 x 26 x 11' high ceilings so for now everything is in storage. Also in a pickle with the new hemi build as the builder passed away and I am trying to get my parts out and trying to find a new builder. It is just the two of us the two dogs and two cats so we decided to down size to nice 1500 sq ft rancher and gear into retirement mode.

I removed the seats, and all the other old parts I had piled in it over the years. Just going to need a clean-up and some paint! Also,I have the rear valance prepped.IMG-20140222-00184.jpgIMG-20140222-00183.jpgIMG-20140218-00180.jpg
