what is the most you have paid to have a used block prepped for a race motor. I just got a 400 block done and spared nothing. lifter bores bushed and so on. just want to get some idea what others have paid (ballpark only).

$ 1140 bux, the one I just got back. nothing out of the way, just normal stuff, did not need to be decked, less than .006, align honed the mains, bored .040 over, checked the lifter bores, and the cam bore, all better than expected, no work needed. he did charge me for a cleaning which did not happen, and a minor amount of rebalance, also not needed, so he did pad the bill up some and I was told he would do this. still that amount of money is small compared to what he could have had from me on futrue jobs. his loss, not mine!! Dave.

Depends where ya go, and if the shop does all their own work. Bushed lifter bores and stuff can be outsourced. My last hemi...
10 years ago....496-pumpgas hemi

Bore and hone w/plates 300.00
align w/aluminum caps 200.00
Bush lifter bores 500.00
minor block clearance 50.00
deck block 200.00

We just redid/freshened the same engine, and I haven't been billed, yet[I haven't gone to get it.] I have no idea what it'll be this time.

mmissile, what is a tall fill with hard blok? how does coolant circulate around cylinders?

It doesn't really. Like a mega-block....they run warmer. It's a "fix" for block instability. That and girdles, and such.
