After a few more outings and failed attempts to tune the car to a better 60', I decided to try a new converter. Previous converter would not go past 1700 and had no flash. The new one is still pretty tight and drives very well, but will flash to 2600-2700.

The previous best was 11.749 @ 120.48. Yesterday with the new converter the car went a 11.31, 11.29 and 11.27 @ 121. I didnt expect that much gain, and was also surprised that the MT P255 tires stuck considering no suspension work. Probably all that trunk hanging out the back.

Below is a comparison between the best before and after runs. Yesterday's air was about 900' better than the 6/1/24 run. Accounting for the air difference, it was probably close to a 0.40 second pick-up

Just before the Demon 170 handed me my ***.

Nice pickup overall! Your 60' definitely improved with the new converter. Good ET consistency too. I'd say that new converter was a great improvement. 440

Those are some huge gains !

Do you load it up at all?

My street car was similar. Put a larger cam in it but retained the 3200 converter. Ran 11.7@121. Previously with a very small cam it had been 11.7@117. Swapped in a 5600 converter 2 weeks later. It went 11.05@122.

Great improvement !

A little more stall speed will help the ET. At that MPH you could run 11.0"s

Basically whatever you gain in the 60 foot time can be doubled at the finish line.
Get in the 1.50's in the 60 foot and you'll be golden.

Very nice hot rod !

Good Luck !

Nice gains. Gonna have to tree that Demon 170 next time!

Care to share what converter you went with? By pm is fine too :drinks:

Guess you weren't joking about the stock converter!
That's a pretty serious increase for an extra 1000 rpm. Good way to test your neck muscles.
Nobody was crabby about the invisible rollbar?

I tried different start rpms. Still need more testing. The best 60' of the three runs was with the highest start rpm , about 2200-ish. Didnt really load it hard.

Nice gains. Gonna have to tree that Demon 170 next time!
I did tree him. The pic is at about the 40'. He went buy me at the 330' like I was in reverse. He trapped at 145.

Called a few companies and went with Dynamic. Frank and Sean seem pretty interested in understanding my car, engine and needs. No reason to think the other would not have done well, but they seemed less optimistic on the low rpm driving around tightness I was looking for.

I didnt realize that it was that low. Before I started calling around I figured I better really test what I had and take note. 1700 was like a brick wall.

No. Which is a little scary.

Nice improvements, got most of it by the 330 ft

I wonder if anyone took note of the column shifter...

The mark of a good high-stall converter is what it does to the mph. Yours improved mph too. Good piece.
My best converter swap picked up two tenths, two mph, in the eighth., 6.50s to 6.30s.

Nice gains for sure, what diameter converter did you go with?

I just got my 9 1/2” dynamic converter couple weeks ago haven’t had a chance to install it yet. Hoping it is a little tighter then the 9” j converter I am running now.

Nice looking Charger you have there, and that is a great improvement for a relatively low stall converter. I hear you on the stock converter, my car won't leave the line without bogging with the stock converter. I will be changing the engine over the winter and I had a new converter built for about 2200 stall. Hopefully it works out as well as yours did.
