Broke my 7UP Pop Machine today....

Insurance is probably expecting a scuff and paint, but there is absolutely no point in painting over an unknown substrate. I'll probaby be out of pocket, but I wanted to know what was under the paint.

I am actually quite surprised it's this clean, found some dents that had been filled and some swiss cheese starting on the lower rockers.

Pin holes just starting along the lower 3 inches or so.

There's been a "cancer" bump in this spot since I bought the car 33 years ago.

Swiss cheese cut out to good metal.

Dan did an amazing job of making the replacement section and butt welding it into place so smooth that you can barely see the joint.

Skim of bondo for the butt joint, dent behind the scoop that was found filled pulled out damn near flush and the lower rocker cut out for replacement in front of the wheel well.

10AM today, break time. Metal replacement in front of the wheel well next today and then some body work and door fitting.

Nope. Have always told myself I can sell this one and buy a fresh restoration for a mere 20 grand upgrade. That said.. I'll have them on the passenger lower rocker between wheels, pending paint match outcome on this side.

It is a struggle to know when to move ahead and when to just stay the course.
Every time I start a project on my red car, I end up taking it further than I first intended. That is fine but it does delay the completion.

It's some mythical time space continuum, don't spend too much time dwelling on it they're never completed.

My coronet had a "cancer" bump on the bottom of the passenger door a few years ago. Had it looked at and he cut out half the bottom of the whole door and fixed a scratch on the front fender. He looked at me and said what now, I said paint the whole side and fix anything you find. Unlike you, I only have one car, time bombs scare me.

Not worried about the passenger quarter, it was done in 1992 after someone on a bicycle underlined plymouth for me with their pedal.... and I do intend to have them do the rocker between wheels on the passenger side after we see how good of a paint match we get on the drivers.

When I have painted cars, it was always the entire car. I would love to know more about color blending and patching existing paint. I've seen many metallic repairs that are as obvious as a bad toupee. A good repair looks good because you can't tell that the area was repainted.
