How many with street cars have this happen ? I have two buddies with Camaro's who both think they are the fastest cars on the road. But neither one will take their cars to the track to see what it runs. They both talk smack joking around but they really think they can beat my 63. I am about 100% sure I can spank both as I dont think either one will go in the 10's. They always say .................hey lets go race and then I say fine meet me at the track. They say......oh no I mean on the street. I dont race on the street and I even tell them just go to the track and see what you car runs and then you will know if you can beat me. But neither one will go to the track. I myself think it is because if they are not as fast as their big mouth says they will feel like a jerk ! And I think they like thinking they can beat me but are afraid to find out the truth ! Ron

Ron, those fools are bench racing at its finest!

I say, let' em' dream'..
That is the closest time they will ever get to out running your Mopar :headbang:

Sounds like typical Chevy guys to me! I had a similar experience with a neighbor and his 69 Camaro. Nothing but crap talk about my big boat 68 RR until one day he wanted to go for a ride. I jumped on it in first and got sideways as usual and he was grabbing the dash. I thought he was going to pee his pants. All he said was "this thing runs pretty good". Years later were were at the track ad he ran a 14.30 to my 13.50. No more crap talk!!

If they are not willing to compare time slips they are not worth any further discussion.

big mouths with Camaros (vomit) are just as plentiful as camaros (vomit again) themselves

Camaros are alot like ******** and managers.Every one has one and nobody wants to here from them!:argue:

"Let's go to the track right now and see" should be the argument ender every time.

You shouldn't have to say another word after that. (well, maybe "pussy!")

You can even just repeat that sentence, if necessary.

Offer to pay their admission and loan them a helmet.

I shut down chebbie guys like this.

Small block Mopars come with 1.5" valve springs and 6.123" connecting rods from the factory. End of arguement. If they wanna keep goin, they're stupid.

That might not be enough information for them. Did ya draw some pictures for them to further illustrate the point?

I don't usually carry Crayons with me. Do you?

Just a thought, maybe they've never run at the track and are a bit nervous about it. Maybe you can take them and show them how much fun they can have.

Ron;like YY1 stated: offer to pay their admission, help 'em find a brain(?) bucket and roll. Heck,if you ask nice, the gang here might be inspired to donate to the cause-just to see the results!:headbang:

I have an older 5.0 Mustang on the hit list-surprisingly-from a few months ago. Was coming back from a show, cruising down Dixie Highway-four lanes wide-and this yahoo and his buds pulled up at a light. Heard 'em rev the motor a bit, watched the traffic light, lightly power-braked when it went yellow for the opposing lanes, waited for the green-and we're off! Eased into the gas(what it likes;can't just floor it) all the way to the floor, momentarily found religion and shifted at 5Grr and put a car-length on 'em in second. Watched the tach, eased the shifter into third-at 5000 again-and put ANOTHER length on them. Proved my point and backed off. Now,the old 413 in Sabrina smokes under hard acceleration-a lot;hey,it's an old mill-and at the next stop, the kids bitched about the cloud of mosquito repellent. I slowly gazed over with my best "grizzled street rat" look and said "Wouldn't have been a problem if you'd been ahead of me." THAT pissed 'em off even more,so when the light turned green,I pretended to want to go again. They blasted off,I departed slowly, and I smiled as I passed them:icon_fU: and the helpful Michigan State Police officer:grin: who was waiting about a half-mile down the road.

Didn't keep my license this long by being a total maroon.

remember that old song buddy gonna shut you down:headbang:

Just freakin' lost it! Only a working ink pen in the console here.

VERY good point about the track issue;I'm sure for a novice it can be a bit intimidating-it sure as heck was for me back in '73!

Great story Al K.

A lot of street racing is in the technique.

Not lettin on that you're gonna go catches a lot of em off guard, even though they're revin and hollerin'.

I'm surprised how many people don't know you can 90% time a green by watching the cross street lights. Almost a tree! Gotta be careful if you're not familliar with the area, as some turn indicators can be timed differently.

Got a buddy with a z06 been mouthin off since he got it a few years back. i got my 69 a couple months ago and he's been stangely quiet.

The Old Saying says it can't get beat as long as it don't leave the garage. I personally like street action myself.
Al good story still looking to meet up at a cruise.
Does anyone think the Beach Boys that wrote and did Shut Down That the 327 vette actually Had a chance against a Superstock 413?
I don't.
But I was Far from being Born Yet.
Just something I alsays wondered.
Mike Z.

The 426 had 13.5:1 compression. The vette had 11.25:1 IF it was the right one. I'd say the vette would never have a chance.

EDIT. I did some quick lookin around. The vette curb weight was 3015. The Max Wedge curb weight was 3328. The vette HP was 360. The Max wedge was 425 HP, supposedly. These numbers are from the 63 model year. Do the math. lol

Typical Chevrolet guys...form before function and a lot of B.S.
