Buddy with fast car.

Be polite, offer to give him lessons on how a tree works. He can pay his own way. Show him how much fun the track can be. Then, whup his ***.

The bullshit stops when the light turns green.

Friend showing me his $50K Camaro in his garage. It's beautiful. Asked him what it runs, he replies "I could never race it, too much money in it."

And just how much does he think is in a real race car?tell him leave it in the garage where it belongs. Gee wiz if i had 50 grand in my car I would run the piss out of it. I want to know if it was money well spent.

Amen to that. A lot of these guys spend so much that the cat looks great but they turn into trailer queens. I'm with you when I get all said and done with my 72 I'm gonna race it and drive it when ever I can.

If I had 50k to put into my car it would be 40k more then I have in it now. And it would not all be spent on making a trailer queen. I might spend 5 to 10K on nice paint but the rest would be on making it go faster. And it would be alot faster then it is now. Ron

Start em' up they spit and fart, Rev em' up they blow apart. it's a chevy, it's a chevy....c'mon everyone sing......

Yes, todays heavy hitters bring a new meaning to the word "super street". Back in the mid-80's a car that held the national record in SS/AA, DeFrank & Cohen's old 68 Hemi Cuda, would come play on the street in Baton Rouge for 5 bills. Back then it was not uncommon to see purpose built race cars driven if the price was right. I went down to Orlando a few years back where they use to have the World Street Nats. I saw a couple imports that really impressed me like a Supra that ran high 10's getting out of the throttle around half track or better. The car was driven in with M/T drag radials and was laying down some serious trap speeds off the throttle. I have a freind that lives a few houses down from me that has a 68 Firebird w/stroked 400/469 with Kaufman heads and 175 hp spray that runs 8.80's in street trim. Use to be on the Pinks All Out commercials with wheels up and undercarrage showing. The shot was taken at Red River in Shreveport, LA.

Chevrolet- Cracks Heads, Eats Valves, Races Only Little Electric Toys....
882 heads were the worst (at least I think that was the casting, been a few years since I was a machinist) My 2 cents, as others have stated, drag them to the track and have them run, pay their fees....otherwise, tell them to sit down and shut up.
In the early 90s in Napa, Santa Rosa, Antioch and Fairfield, I used to prowl the streets with my multi colored primer 68 Charger. My greatest joy was demonstrating that if the ugly car wants to race, the money didnt go into the paint job....:headbang: The truth of who is a better driver is at the finish line, not who built your car, how much you spent, or what the dyno says. 800 HP is useless if you cant hook it up...and like in the Harley world- chrome don't get you home....

I wonder if we ever crossed paths... Hey I use to frequent the Concord, Walnut Creek, Antioch & Fairfield areas,. Modesto & Sacramento, among many others too, no so much the Santa Rosa or Napa areas, but I was out there, many times, with either mostly in a "piss yellow/black" low 69 RR w/440/513ci stroker w/in line 2x4bbls N/A, don't know what it ever ran, I never took it to the track, beat many "supposedly" 10 second street cars though "yeah right", or a silver or light silver/blue depending on late 80's early-mid 90's a 67 Camaro highly ported rect. port/full roller 468ci BBC single 4bbl Dominator w/N20, tubbed, tinned, back halfed, ladder bar car, w/3 N20 kits to choose from, carb. plate, manifold spray bar or port nozzle kits, depending on conditions or whom I was going to destroy that night...LOL..., that car ultimately went into the mid high 7's w/a 540ci BBC Donavon/Lenco, full tube chassis & 4 link, before I finally sold it, back when I drove it on the streets it would run low 9's "easily", with the juice of course, I would tow one or other car, or a friends car, to my sister house actually Ronert Park, then go out & find some victims to pick on...LOL..., When we would go to Sacramento I would tow to my buddies Bob's C. house in Rancho Cordoba, BBQ with the racing buddies then go out on the prowl, when in Concord everyone came to my place, to swim & BBQ/bench race, it was close to Ignatio Valley rd & you could see the area "we marked off", to race from my back deck... I had a good friend old room mate Rob M. {his dad was a Sheriff}, that grew up in Napa/Sonoma area, we would usually take his car out there, Green 69 BB Nova or Orange/Pearl White stripes 68 SB Camaro, neither wasn't all that fast, maybe low 12's, but very respectable for street driven cars on street tires, at least until the cops kept hassling me or them, then I went back to the good old Concord {Ignacio Valley Rd or Willow Pass Rd.}, Antioch {out by the old drive in mostly or in Pittsburgh out on 10th street, by the PG&E refinery} & Walnut Creek areas with the occasional Fairfield {Ball Cannery Rd, by the base}, Modesto {out by hwy120}or Sacramento {El Camino/El Centro, buy I-5 north, or out by Ranch Secco} areas, depending on what was going on... I use to love to see the F-ugly fast beaters come out & whoop on the no go show boats... The guys always gave me a bad time, because I always had slicks, most would never race me either, I would usually have to get some new unsuspecting person, or some guy would come searching/looking for me from who knows where, they would say "where's your street tires ?", I would always reply "those are my street tires".... If you can get the power to the ground, all the HP in the world doesn't do you much good....

Back in the 70's I had a 12 second street car and it was one of the fastest cars on the street in my area. Now you can have a 10 second street car and still get you clock cleaned. You just dont know what some are running with the power adders today. I mean if you supercharge or turbocharge a cr you can make unreal power. It seemed like in the 70's we all stayed with naturally asperated engs but not now. Course I do as I like it to be like the old days with no power adders. I mean I could slap a 200 shot on my 63 and run 9's with no trouble and its not a lightweight. I like to judge how a cr runs by the combo it has. But today on the street you never know what you may run up against. Ron
