Buddy with fast car.

Rusty, Like the stress on the body when you get it on...etc.
just knowing you are in a 50 year old car, and it
took the rest of the world 40 years to beat you is a hoot!

JMVHO.

my GOD,,,,i love sonnys car.....:headbang:

The funny thing about your comment on the mustangs to me is they had to do so much mods to get to that point. vs a stock hemi or 440 lol I see it all the time the only way the other guys can beat a mopar is with crazy amounts of mods let's see stock 302 vs stock 318 or stock 351 vs stock 340 or stock 428 vs stock 440 or hemi. who wins?

I would usually agree but these are some pretty budget oriented guys that do all the work themselves, and the 800RWHP coupe was running low 11's on a 125 Shot (12.4's W/O) with a carbed' 302 with a mild cam (stock heads and compression) years ago, also with a 5 speed! Also had a SB 427 stroker with twin turbo's at one time... His father has a fully restored Ford Fairlane with a 427 and that is one VERY nice car.. He has owned it since new.. Love Mopars but I know their are other fast cars out their as well.. I still believe the SBM is by far the best small block platform though, without a doubt..

I see guys like this at the cruise nights I go to all the time. My favorite are the ones that make up a professional looking display with all their engine specs and dyno results.

Question for the guy I see every Friday night with the tubbed '66 Belvedere with the RB and Indy heads and display bragging about the 815 dynoed hp - how come I've never seen you at the 1/8 mile drags that run at least twice a month?

The other thing that gets me are the people that go on the message boards and want to know what they will need to do to build a 600 hp motor for their street car which they never plan on running at the strip.

I mean, from my experience anyway, 400-450 honest hp in an old street car is enough for it to be a handful on the street.

I love these stories, I'm 20, so just about every one of my friends drives an import so I am always cringing my teeth when I have to hear about their cars... I know I'm not the fastest and don't care about being the fastest. Right now I'll be happy to see high 11's on my time slip, I would love to beat my dads mustang... even if he gets 25mpg on the highway.

If you want to beat a Mustang, a Louisville Slugger is a lot cheaper than a cam swap.

It is awesome.....I didn't comment cause nothin I couldda said wouldda been worthy. lol

I can only echo that. Stunning car,Sonny!

OK,back to the subject-sort of. Ron;were you able to persuade these guys to give the track a try? If it is a bit intimidating to them,be a mentor,of sorts-if they're receptive-and fill 'em in on procedures and protocol, maybe give their cars a once-over to offer advice on safety equipment and the like. I'm forever grateful to the older dudes who schooled me,but made it clear that I had an obligation to pass on any wisdom I may have accumulated onto the next generation.

Something else: If you do get them there, you'll know they're hooked by their nervousness in the lanes. Every time I waited to fire up my car to roll onto the track,my heart was racing. Didn't matter if it was the first pass of the night or the tenth, the excitement and anticipation was incredible. If one doesn't get excited and nervous waiting to run,a coroner needs to be summoned-'cause there ain't no pulse!

Amen Al K felt the same way when I was racing my SRT4 neon can't wait to see what my 72 is gonna do but yea nervous and sweaty palms in the lanes and right before burn out lol

Hay Sonny.....I reckon from now on, if you wanna change the subject...or break up a argument or just shake us up just post a pic of your car. lol

.....mine is just another ride.:icon_neutral: it has a few pimples, but a pretty girl can have a few and still be sexy.

800RWHP and 12.4, WTH? I have a buddy with a home built all wheel drive S10 that put down 600 to the ground and went 10.20s all day long. Oh, that is pump gas freindly twin T3T4 SBC fuel injected, overdrive tranny, and 3.08 rear gearing. 800RWHP and 12.4's something is frickin wrong with that thang. My dads R/T ran 11.80s in the late 70's and was driven to the track. Yes there are some serious small tire street cars sporting some crazy crap under the hood and being driven. I just got rid of a mid 9 second 2nd gen camaro that may have put 600-650 to the ground on the spray. It ran high 10's w/o on pump gas. Back in the early 80's around Baton Rouge you could not go to Sonic if you couldn't run 11's are they would take your money. Now a days the bar has moved into the 9's easy when talking boosted power. I have another buddy with a 347 SBF with F2 supercharger on 10" tires runs deep in the nines. Fact is you can make all the power you want but if you cannot plant it your pissin' in the wind.

He runs 8's with 800RWHP in a turbo pump gas street car with 331ci and this is on a 275/60 drag radial. I was stating when he had a STOCK 302 with a E303 Camshaft and a 650DP on a performer RPM intake he ran in the mid 12's and ran low 11's on nitrous with a five speed. If he had a big tire car, obviously he could run much faster in a 3000lb chassis. Point is, this is a car they have driven to and from the track on numerous occasions. If you plan on beating something like this with ANY mopar, you better be packing some serious heat..

I know whats in both of these Camaro's. The one is a 383 smallblock Stroker and I really dont think it can get near the low 11's. The other is the one I might worry more about as its a 468 with aluminum heads. But I have rode in the car and know how it goes and it is a 4-speed which is in my favor because the driver is not very good with a 4-speed. I would think this car can get in the 10's but maybe not with this guy driving.

This is a true story about another buddy with a Camaro. He had a 69 Camaro with a 502 crate eng. Everytime he came out we would hear a story as how he spanked another car and thought his car was the fastest street car around. One day he told me how he spanked an 11 second Cuda. At that time I had my 383 Dart that had run 12.30's @ 110. My one buddy had driven that guys Camaro and he told me he knew my Dart would spank it. I was not so sure as I mean it was a bigblock Camaro ? We finnally got this guy to the track and I kid you not he could not even get in the 13's !!! LOL ! After two more times to the track he finally got 13.80's out of it and this was the worlds fastest street car to him. Yea......Ron

You should see what Don at Heritage has done to his chebby. The "my chevelle" stories have only gotten worse.

I thought he was driving his Vette most of the time ? Ron

In the case of the Beach Boys song, the actual cars in the time were actually raced with the MoPar killing the vette pretty badly.

Little old lady from Pasadena

Yep they needed the 'little old lady' from Pasadena", from the Jan & Dean song, driving it instead...LOL... The S/S 413 Dodge was smoking the tires, winding out in low, the 1st race, he whooped him the next race...LOL...

He pulled the 454 out and put in an LS motor with 2 turbos. Its all he can talk about and the chit is getting deep LOL.

Does he think it will be faster the 12's that he ran before in the Chevelle ? Ron
