The bolt that secures the leafs and positions the perch matches the original perch holes but the new perches have larger holes. I made a bushing to help keep everything centered.
the 64
the new perch
the diameter of bronze bushing is slightly smaller, so a little compression in the vise made a perfect fit.
Working on my custom fan shroud. I designed it in autocad but needs a little fine trimming to get a nice fit. A little aluminum welding this week to finish it up.
Well I went to see Todd Marsh in NC this week and came away with some shiny new sidewinders. A little disappointed though as he did not use the springs I asked for that match my cam. Instead he used comp cams 924 springs which are slightly bigger and have more seat pressure. I'm hoping it won't matter too much. Also he did not have the cometic head gaskets I ordered nor does anyone else have them. Seemd like they take weeks to get. I'm contemplating going with perma torque 8519tp1 gaskets that I already have but at .039 this raises my quench to about .058. Not sure what this difference will make in the long run. My compression will sit around 9.3:1 and will be pump friendly at least.
Now where to order? Summit only has steel rods at 8.950 bit I thought chromemoly would be better. There are a lot of options on Smith bros website and have no idea how to choose. Have to call them I guess.
Spark plugs are different. I picked up some autolites that crossed from the ngks Todd reccommended but I'm wondering if these 'racing' will be right for my combo.
you are really do it up. you have done a great job and it keeps getting better. not sure about the racing plugs please let me know which way you go on that.
Clearance looks good. Narrowest point for both valves with no head gasket is 0.2215.
Also rechecked my piston to deck and it is .014 not .019 as I thought. Changes the math a little, so with .039 gaskets, the compression will be 9.46:1 with a quench of .053 I believe. A bit more than I was shooting for but I'm hoping this will be fine.
With installing and removing the head a bunch of times, my back is sure happy the heads are aluminum!
