I think it is in the ignition but I can't be sure. New motor (description in my sig.) I bought a Proform electronic ignition kit from Jegs (with the orange box) It runs "ok" (not great) in the garage in park. Under a load it runs terrible. I have checked the plugs, ohmed the plug wires, tried rejetting the carb, and so far no luck. Anyone else have problems with these aftermarket "mopar style" electronic ignitions? I found out now the orange box is not the best one...I should get the chrome one. Does anyone think that the box could be bad? Any other suggestions? The other thing I should add is that when wiring according to the directions it would not run. It only had spark when the key was in the start position. The tech guy at Proform said it was a bad ballast resistor. I changed it out and it did the same thing. So I wired it "my way"...with no ballast resistor. Basically key on power to the positive on the coil and the blue wire on the ignition module. Could this be the problem? Help!!!

is it an old cam or perhaps old gas if its an old cam maybe you have a lobe wiped out? ive seen 6mo old gas cause a missfire as well

How did it run before the new ignition installation? The wiring still sounds fishy to me. Both wires to the coil should come from the orange box. The larger blue wire goes to the (+) side of the coil and the black with yellow tracer goes to the (-) side. I have an orange box on my 66 Bel and I should probably confirm the wire colors, but I do know both wires come from the box plug. Also make sure the coil isn't wired backwards.

My orange box setup seems to run fine and I am using the same points ballast that was on the car. Right or wrong it seems to run OK. I believe the main problem by not running the ballast will tend to overdrive the box and cause failure.

It had some old gas in it, but I filled it up with fresh premium before I started it. Nothing in the directions does it say that the blue wire (or any wire) from the ignition module gets hooked to the coil. I have not had this new motor running with the stock points igntition.

I had the same problem. Replaced plugs, wires, new orange box, ballast resistor. Same thing. Saw an inline, glass fuel filter. Disassembled, cleaned, put back on. Cranked, started on first try and was good to go. Go figure!
Just my 2 cents and hope it helps you!

I used the instructions from mymopar.com and the car runs fine. Go to the tools and references and click I think electrical wiring and look there for the instructions. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Did you check to see that the plug wires were connected to the correct plugs? Put my motor back in my car last year. It fired up but didn't idle well and ran like crap under load. Got the plug wires on right and solved the problem.
