Carpenters Special - 69 bee clone bruiser

Well I was able to get in my shop and work on my car a little tonight and made a tiny bit of progress. I am still working on the front suspension and right now I am getting the K member mounting points done. I drilled 1 1/4" holes in the frame rails so I can weld in the threaded DOM tubing in place. I bought some 1 1/4" DOM tubing and had a local machine shop drill and tap for 3/4" by 16 bolts because I don't have a metal lathe and they only charged me $50.

It's looking good...

Well I haven't posted in a while, have been busy working and have not had a chance to work on the car but I have been buying lots of parts. I got my rad and fans here and the fiberglass bumpers ( not sure if I will use the bumpers ). I had a good talk with Bill from RMS regarding the Alterkation unit and he told me the unit was actually designed for my type of application and morphed into stock application. I have been looking at all possible avenues and after talking with Bill I decided to order one and it will be ready to ship in about three weeks. Bill makes mounts for the upper control arm that I can weld to the frame rails and by using the same shorter mounts for both the front and rear of the control arm it brings the control arm more level and actually gives the suspension better geometry. The complete Wilwood disc brake kit is coming with it as well ( 11" slotted and drilled rotors, 4 piston calipers ). I have also been buying parts for the new 588" blown Hemi which I am going to have the machining, assembly and dyno done by Performance Only in Florida. I have also changed my mind on the color and have had this option on the back burner before I decided on the last color. This has been the hardest part of the whole project. What do you think of my choice.

If you dont mind? Whats this color called? Looks better than the Fk5 that came on my Bee.

It seems you're a little more than a journeyman carpenter. Fabulous work.

I don't know the color yet. I have been searching for the owner with no luck yet. I am going to take a photo to the paint shop and see what they think.

I got a little shop time in tonight and making progress on the front suspension.
Getting things fitted and tack welded.

seeing all the welding work you're doing, i'd have to say it would take a pretty stout motor to flex those rails.

looks good.
wondering why you choose altercation and not strutt front end?
i just purchased 4 link, rear sway bar and strange struts with brakes for 2200 with all brackets. im starting a new round tube chassie for my dart.

My frame rails are at stock height and width. I looked into strut front ends with no luck.

did u use aluminum or steel interior ?
wondering what final weight will be?
btw metal work looks great. i thiought my cars needed work but after watching what you have done my dont look that bad

I went with 18ga steel on the floor pan area and 20ga steel on the wheel tubs. I might start changing some to aluminum and if I was to do it again I would go with aluminum, learning curve......you know how it goes.

I just got in from the shop and showered and thought I better post some piddly progress compared to someone else.
Got part of the rad support done.

Well I finally got the front suspension done and just need to check ride height with the motor, tranny and a few other things in the car and then I can move forward. Setting up the front and rear suspension was a lot of work and money and I am glad this part is done.

I've only seen pictures of your hands, but if I saw a picture of the rest of you, would you be wearing a cape? And a red, white and blue suit? Holy cow man!

I actually have one hubcap from Steve McQueen's Bullit Mustang. If I send it to you do you think you could, you know, fab up the rest of the car to go around it maybe?????

Well that certainly gave me a good laugh. Thanks for that over rated compliment, I'll still take it though. I wish I had the skills that warranted the wow factor but of course I was stupid and went into carpentry.
