Cleaning dash tag, and painting dash

Hi I need to clean and paint my dash on a 69 Charger, also the dash tag is very dirty, what is the best way to clean it without taking if off and not damaging the Chrysler corporation print, also will masking it up damage it in anyway?? many thanks

Masking your dash tag will lift the Chrysler corporation print.

This is one of those situations that you must take your time. There are hundreds of restoration vids out there that can guide you......you only really get one crack at these emblems in their natural state.....

I really want to keep the tag as original as possible, so just a very gentle clean and maybe just mask it around the edge without touching the print..

Take a Q tip and wipe the tag with a coating of Vaseline
Paint the dash , then take a light cloth and wipe the tag back off

Or maybe make a "tent" out of masking tape, completely surrounding the vin plate...then paint as usual. If you need to, you can touch up the surrounding area, you taped off with a small brush. At least you're vin plate will be safe.
