Comp Camps Purple Plus Cams

Does anyone have any comments or experience with the Comp Cams Nostalgia Series Purple Plus cams for big blocks? From my understanding, these are massaged factory Chrysler designed profiles for .904 lifters with extended exhaust duration to make it a dual pattern cam, and not Chevy profiles cut to Mopar specs. I wasn't thrilled with my original MP 284/484 back in the 80's in my high compression '67 440. It was a dog, but I'm eyeballing this new version with modern designed lobes and thinking good things. It's going into a 9-1 compression '69 440 with a 4 speed and 4.10 gears.....manual brakes.
 
No not exactly, but I run comp cam XE series 274 and extremely happy, I use to run a purple shaft and the comp is a much better on low end torque and still have vacuum for my power brakes. I would not hesitate to buy a comp cam over other manufacturers.
 
If you weren't thrilled with the mp cams I would not expect to be wowed by the comp cam versions. Some applications like the split duration but that just all depends. We used a lot of Mp cams but usually when we changed cams it was a upgrade to a solid never to a nostalgia plus.
It really depends on what you are after. A lot of the mp cams didn't have a lot of lift and worked good back in the day for stamped steel rockers and stock guides, but if you want more thunder it really depends on your combo and what you are looking for. I will say the nostalgia series cost a lot less then anything Mp has.
IMHO thoughts to consider: fast rate hydraulics are known to run out of steam when you expect it to keep pulling, hydr. lifter quality is really important, close ratio 4 speeds a couple degree narrower lsa on the cam narrows up the power band.

According to Comp, those Purple Plus cams are made with new computer designed ramps with faster rate of lift, etc. It seems that the timing events are specifically Chrysler, so it should work better than the old MP wouldn't you guess?
 
Most mopar grinds now have a lot more lift then the purple cams do/did. But if comp's "version" of the purple cam lift and duration works for you it might be better then a purple cam. How similiar is really unknown, Lol...Comp advertises it as such. I would not be afraid of one if it fits.
 
Its certainly comp's "version" of the purple cam, It's just a guess without measuring the two.... but we have measured some of comps cams computer designed hydraulic fast rate cams and compared to a purple cam and the purple cam used some pretty comparable ramp rates. My guess is the nostalgia and purple cams are likely pretty similiar with the biggest difference being comp added duration on the exhaust. So saying it going to be a big improvement, Likely not, but comp is easier on the wallet. I would take a chance on one if the lift and duration fit.

I really have not been thrilled with MP or Comp that last 10 years or so. I have been happier with Lunati lately.

We are lucky enough that we get to Dyno every BB Mopar engine build after we Machining & Assembling them.... NO Exceptions !
NOTHING leaves unless we Dyno them FIRST !

That said....
we've also been able to run/Dyno test just about everyone on the planet's Flat Tappet Hydraulic Cams as well, and see the Dyno results in a BB Mopar.... Comp/Crower/Crane/Lunati and on and on.

Nothing wrong with any of the Comp Cams shelf offerings..... we even made 546hp/564 Ft/Lbs out of just a .030" over 440 using Ported STEALTH Heads and a Performer RPM Intake using a Comp XE284H.....
which was the highest HP/Trq than ANYBODY else's Cams we've tested in similar sizings(all previous listed).

Believe whatever you want.... Dyno's don't lie.... be careful of verbal "hype"..... we don't use Lunati anything anymore ? mainly because we must be doing something wrong and we just can't seem to 'find' the power on the Dyno that many claim ?
