I always post these threads now so you guys can trash a car and save me from making stupid decisions. Fire away.

Owner has the original numbers matching motor. I asked what he would do to the car with 10K to throw at it as he seems to have been doing upgrades when necessary. He said he'd rebuild the original motor and otherwise the car is solid except for it has a slight run on after turning off the key (timing probably) and a small oil leak.

Everything looks pretty good except for that that half a$$ed driver side exhaust hanger. Not a deal breaker if you think it's worth the money.

DeltaV also hated that. "Worth the money" who knows? He said he'd take a lower number I was more comfortable with. Similar cars seem to sell right in that range. Insofar as options go it's about as desirable as an N code is going to get. Unmolested tag. Broadcast sheet. There's stuff to like. I want a driver so it's not so pretty I'd be afraid to enjoy it.

I don't think the dieseling is from timing.
When you turn off the key there is no timing.
Likely bad gas and/ or excessive carbon buildup in the cylinders.
Just an FYI

I like it. Great colours, 4 speed, Ramcharger. If the body magnet checks, pay a price you're comfortable with.

crappy paint over rust pits makes me wonder about everything else........
I had some of that with GTX number three, the result of some spilled battery acid in that location. However, the car passed the magnet test with flying colors, no filler anywhere, all original sheet metal.

in my opinion; your car is the exception, not the rule ...........

This is why I always inspected them in person. I've made some good deals on cars like this that were better on close inspection than in pictures. That GTX was a 97,000 mile weekend driver with tired paint, but it had never been winter driven, always garaged, and most of the miles were highway, put on while driving to nascar events.

I'd be more interested in seeing the trunk pan, and the inside of the quarter panels; rather than the jacking instructions........ I mean, if your taking pics inside the trunk, why not? (I think I know the answer)

the underside of the dutchman panel may be hiding some secrets also

When I bought the Demonstrator, it was the first thing I checked. Seller was surprised when I started there. It had been done with NOS in 1981, still perfect. After seeing that, I knew I was going to buy the car. My A33 car had a perfect original. I was surprised the seller never put a picture of it in his Hemmings ad.

Seller says "No power steering. As far as I know 1 repaint but I guess it’s hard to say. The body is solid. No rust. The front brakes are drum. The brakes feel good and the car stops well. It does have a slight oil leak. The tach currently does not work. I had to have the speedometer replaced last year because it stopped working. So the mileage started over at 0. It really runs and drives good. It does have a little bit of “run on” occasionally when the ignition is turned off. I’ve been told it’s just a timing adjustment i just haven’t had it done yet. I’m not much of a mechanic myself. I will get you the photos and videos of it running, but I probably won’t be able to get to that until this weekend. Tires are new. New beauty rings. The front seats were reupholstered and a new headliner was installed within the last few years. New mufflers as well."

Per my earlier post, a personal inspection will tell. The magnet is your friend. Mechanical stuff on these cars is cheaper to deal with than body issues. Big plus it's not located on the other side of the country.

I realize, but it's going to cost me at least 2 grand to go check it out so I like to get my decision pretty tight before I spend that time and money. An honest seller is willing to run a magnet for you on a video these days.

I also weighed the amount of history provided, when making the decision to spend money on traveling. I have also been luckier than most with good examples coming up close to home. My former Hemi car was four hours away, and my current one was within a hour. I flew from PA to Iowa twice doing the deal on the A33 car, after the seller provided some historical background that wasn't mentioned in original ad.
